Seeking to maintain their slim chances of qualifying for European competition, Freiburg will head to Borussia Park to take on Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga this Saturday.

In their previous match, the Foals settled for a draw against newly-promoted Heidenheim, while the Breisgau Brazilians suffered a narrow defeat to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Following the recent two-week international break, Borussia Monchengladbach aims to secure their first win of March. The third month of 2024 has been disappointing for them so far, as they've only managed to gather three points from three Bundesliga matches.

Draws against Mainz, Koln, and Heidenheim failed to excite the Foals' supporters. Moreover, their elimination from the DFB Pokal quarter-finals by third-tier Saarbrucken on March 12 was a bitter blow, especially with Kai Brunker's 91st-minute goal knocking them out of the competition.

With just one victory in their last nine Bundesliga matches, Gerardo Seoane's team has understandably slipped to 12th place in the league standings. They sit comfortably nine points ahead of 16th-placed Mainz, who are currently facing relegation playoffs.

Monchengladbach has heavily relied on their home performances to stay afloat in the Bundesliga this season. Out of their 28 league points, 19 have been earned at Borussia Park. They've suffered only four losses in front of their loyal supporters in 13 home matches so far.

Ko Itakura is scheduled to miss Borussia Monchengladbach's games due to illness. He has been with Japan on international duty.

Kouadio, who suffered a hamstring strain while playing for the France Under-23s, will have to work hard to get back to full fitness before the season is out.

Due to a knee injury sustained over the past two weeks, Philipp Lienhart is not available for Freiburg to use.

Having suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the first part of last year, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has not yet made an appearance for the Breisgau Brazilians this season.

After suffering an ankle injury, Noah Weisshaupt, 22, found it difficult to establish himself in the starting lineup at left back. As a result, the 22-year-old will be out until the middle of April.
