Champions Celtic will also come to Pittodrie Stadium to take on Aberdeen, who are fighting to complete as the ‘best of the rest’ at the top flight of Scottish football, on Wednesday night.

The hosts sit 4th in the table and three points behind the 3rd place holder Hibernian while the visitors are already champion as they have 17 points lead at the top.

Aberdeen made incredible beginnings to the 2024-25 season, with the new manager Jimmy Thelin being unbeaten in his first 16 matches, winning 15 of them and one draw.

That shape however would not carry on since Aberdeen ventured on a horror run that only saw the side secure two victories in the next 17 matches played consisting of a league run of 14 games without winning.

Aberdeen, who were under the threat of dropping out of the top six completely, managed to find their form at the last part of the regular season where they accumulated four wins, three draws with one loss in the league while also qualifying for the Scottish FA Cup final where they will play the Wednesday’s opponents at the end of this month.

Although that momentum continued into their initial post-split encounter where Hibs were defeated 1-0, the Dons have lost their next two games including, the embarrassing 4-0 thumping to Rangers at the weekend.

Those results puts Aberdeen fourth in the Scottish Premiership just three points adrift of Hibernian in the Europa League qualifying berth and a whisker ahead of Dundee United occupying a Europa League qualifying position.

Having the intention of restoring their previous winning momentum and maintaining their place in the European spots, Aberdeen will try to win all three points against a Celtic side that lacks any motivation to win in the league.

Celtic never seemed likely to lose first place after Aberdeen's downturn after matchday 11, steadily increasing their lead and winning the championship with a decisive 5-0 victory over Dundee United in the first post-split match.

With the Scottish League Cup already won and the Scottish FA Cup final to come, the Bhoys are still vying for a historic sixth domestic treble in the previous nine seasons. That victory saw them secure their 55th league title, matching Rangers' record.

Celtic has dominated this matchup; the Bhoys have won 24 games and drawn five in their last meeting with the Dons, which dates back to May 2018.

Gavin Molloy, Sivert Heltne Nilsen, and Vicente Besuijen are expected to miss Aberdeen's game, and Ester Sokler has been sidelined until the end of the season.

Following the Dons' heartbreaking 4-0 loss to Rangers in their most recent game, Thelin may decide to make a number of changes to his starting lineup, possibly reintroducing players like Kevin Nisbet and Pape Habib Gueye.

Regarding Celtic, Jota will miss the rest of the season because of a cruciate ligament injury, and Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers are out for this game.
