Aberdeen takes on Celtic at the Pittodrie Stadium on Wednesday evening in what can hardly be termed as anything other than mouth-watering clash that is expected to come to pass between the two sides currently staring at each other from the summit of the Scottish Premiership.
The hosts have played 14 games and have 33 points for the second position; the visitors began with 13 matches and 37 points leading to the league.
With spectacular performances in all competitions as in the start of the 2024-25 The Dons have been a pale shadow in the past weeks.
Their first 16 fixtures saw them amass 15 victories and one draw in all competitions they were taking part in and they stood as the league log leaders/clubs and had qualified to the final stages of the Scottish League Cup.
That was an excellent start to the term, especially after a dreadful 2023-24 campaign which saw Aberdeen change no fewer than three managers and finish ninth in the pre-split table, although the team did fare appreciably better in the post-split half, rising to seventh place.
Jimmy Thelin who took over the side in the summer was at last knocked out in his first sterl Siemens competitive encounter in his 17th competitive match in the Dons when the side was thrashed 6-0 by Celtic in the League Cup semi-final encounter.
They responded to that by beating Dundee 4-1 in the league but in their last five games they have lost 2-1 to St Mirren, and drawn their last two with Hibernian 3-3 and Hearts 1-1.
Those achievements have placed them nine points below Celtic on the league log with the Bhoys also having one match in hand, meaning a win here could be decisive in the race for the trophy.
Having not been defeated in their last 11 games in all competitions, Celtic will be sure of another win which will take them 7 points clear at the top.
From the end of the previous season to the start of this one, Brendan Rodgers' team has only lost once in their last 33 games, and that was against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this year.
Given their outstanding form going into the game, Celtic's 7-1 loss was a great surprise, but they have recovered admirably in the subsequent games, winning 8 and drawing 3 of their last 11 games.
Ross Doohan is probably going to start here because Dimitar Mitov might not be able to play in Aberdeen's next games after being substituted out due to an injury in the 46th minute of their most recent tie with Hearts.
The Hoops are still playing on a different planet from the other teams in the league, and when they led Ross County 5-0 at halftime at the weekend, there was a genuine chance of a cricket score.
They slowed down in the second half, although keep in mind that Celtic had six changes made by manager Brendan Rodgers.
Naturally, they are also balancing their Champions League responsibilities with the domestic title fight, and they seem to be doing so with ease.
Although Aberdeen has presented surprising competition in the title race, they have recently begun to fall behind after only earning two points from three away games against Hearts, Hibs, and St. Mirren.
Although it should be emphasized that they have only lost one league game, they have appeared worn out, and there is a persistent fear that teams have begun to discover them.
