The new Euroleague season has started off well for the Lithuanian team. With three victories and two defeats, they are now ranked ninth in the Euroleague rankings. Zalgiris declared wins over Crvena zvezda (79-74), Baskonia (99-82) and Virtus Bologna (82-79). Valencia (72-87) and Real Madrid (79-93) were their opponents.

But they didn't play well against Valencia last week. Even with enthusiastic home crowd support, coach Kazys Maksvytis' squad got off to a slow start and let their opponents set the pace. The Spanish team won the match with a well-earned lead that they maintained throughout.

All things considered, Zalgiris appears to be doing well this season. Even with a tight budget for new player additions, they're outperforming their budgetary limitations in terms of performance. They aimed for a similar ambition this year, having defied expectations by making it to the Top 8 last season. Every member of the squad contributes equally, yet key players like Edgaras Ulanovas, Rolands Šmits, and Keenan Evans have clearly defined roles.

On the other hand, Asvel's basketball team has not yet won a game this year. They have now lost five straight games, shattering a record-breaking run of losing results. They have suffered eighteen straight losses and their last victory in the Euroleague was in January 2023.

In response to this, the club's management changed the head coach. They appointed Italy's national team coach Gianmarco Pozzecco. Asvel lost to Virtus 84-87 on Friday, despite his debut game not being as planned, the French team was really close to winning.

Without a doubt, the Italian tactician will give the Asvel players more self-assurance and his recognizable upbeat spirit. Asvel has a strong lineup, and their performance isn't commensurate with their standing.
