Just five points separate Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League—a scenario few predicted at the start of the season. The two sides meet at Molineux on Sunday in what promises to be an intriguing battle.

Spurs head into the match with limited recovery time, having played a grueling 1-1 Europa League draw against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday. Meanwhile, Wolves boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town last weekend.

For Tottenham, the Premier League season now seems like a lost cause. Sitting 14th—17 points clear of relegation but 14 adrift of the European spots—manager Ange Postecoglou appears to be pinning his hopes on Europa League success to salvage both the campaign and possibly his job.

The North London side fought back to earn a draw against Frankfurt in the first leg of their quarter-final, with Hugo Ekitike’s brilliant strike canceling out Pedro Porro’s clever flick. However, were it not for Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua Santos’ heroics, Spurs could have taken a lead into the second leg. Instead, their season—and likely Postecoglou’s fate—now hinges on next Thursday’s decisive clash in Germany.

Domestically, Tottenham at least avoided disaster last weekend, securing a 3-1 win over Southampton that confirmed the Saints’ relegation and ended Spurs’ four-game winless streak. Yet their dismal away form remains a major concern. They’ve lost their last three road matches without scoring and have suffered nine Premier League away defeats this season—the third-worst record in the league, behind only Southampton (13) and Leicester City (11).

As they prepare for back-to-back challenges against Wolves and Frankfurt, Spurs must find a way to turn their fortunes around—or risk a season that promised so much ending in disappointment.

The worrying signs continue for Spurs, who are set to face one of the Premier League’s in-form teams. Wolves, along with Aston Villa and Newcastle United, are currently riding a joint-longest three-game winning streak in the division.

Vitor Pereira’s side had to dig deep at Portman Road last weekend. Ipswich took a crucial lead through Liam Delap’s 12th goal of the season, but substitute Pablo Sarabia made a game-changing impact. Within 12 minutes of coming on, he equalized and then assisted Jorgen Strand Larsen’s winner, securing a dramatic comeback.

That win, which followed victories over Southampton and West Ham, lifted Wolves 12 points above the relegation zone. If other results go their way, they could mathematically guarantee survival within the next two matches. Notably, their comeback in gameweek 31 also extended their scoring streak to 10 consecutive matches across all competitions—they haven’t failed to score since January’s home clash with Arsenal.

Adding to their confidence, Wolves have become something of a thorn in Tottenham’s side, going unbeaten in their last four league meetings. They've also won their last two encounters at Molineux, though they haven’t defeated Spurs in three straight home league games since the 1960s.
