Mestalla is set to host an enticing showdown in La Liga this Saturday, as Valencia welcomes Real Betis, with both teams vying for a European berth in Spain's premier league.

Valencia presently occupy the seventh spot in the La Liga standings, trailing sixth-placed Real Sociedad by three points, while Real Betis sit in eighth position, just two points adrift of their opponents for the upcoming clash.

It's undeniable that the 2022-23 season was a major letdown for Valencia, as they finished a disappointing 16th in La Liga, marking their lowest position in Spain's top division since their relegation to the Segunda Division in 1986.

However, Los Che have shown significant improvement this season, enjoying a commendable campaign thus far, amassing 47 points from their 31 matches, which currently positions them in seventh place in the league table.

Real Betis will also approach this game following a triumph, having secured a 2-1 victory over struggling Celta Vigo in their latest outing, which halted a four-match losing streak in Spain's premier division.

Under the guidance of Manuel Pellegrini, the team has amassed 45 points from their 31 league fixtures this season, positioning them in eighth position, trailing seventh-placed Valencia by two points and sixth-placed Real Sociedad by five.

The Green and Whites achieved a sixth-place finish in La Liga last season and have demonstrated resilience this season, suffering only eight defeats. However, a surplus of draws (12) has prevented them from ascending higher in the league standings.

In a previous encounter this season, Real Betis convincingly defeated Valencia with a 3-0 scoreline. Conversely, they suffered a 3-0 defeat in the corresponding fixture at Mestalla during the 2022-23 campaign.

Despite this, Real Betis secured a notable victory at Mestalla in May 2022 and have lost just once to Valencia in their last seven league encounters.

As things stand, Ruben Baraja's team would go to the Conference League playoff round, but they trail Real Sociedad, who are now in sixth position and have a Europa League slot, by just three points.

Valencia has actually won three of their past five league games and only lost one, so they come into this game fresh off victories on the road against Granada and Osasuna.

The six-time La Liga winners have been competitive at home this year, amassing 29 points from 15 games. They will be hosting Real Betis, a team that has only three league victories away from home in 2023–24.
