USA vs Haiti

To keep their CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-final hopes alive, Haiti face the USA on Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, needing a victory to stay in contention for the last eight.

The USA, seven-time champions, secured their quarter-final spot with a 1-0 victory against Saudi Arabia on matchday two, while Haiti drew 1-1 with Trinidad and Tobago.

The Americans dominated possession with 68% in their last game, breaking through 22 minutes from the end to clinch the win. This result eased pressure on coach Mauricio Pochettino, whose team had lost four straight matches before the tournament but now boasts two consecutive Gold Cup wins without conceding.

A draw this weekend will ensure the USA top their group for the seventh straight time, while a win would see them finish the group stage with a perfect record for the third time in four tournaments.

Since a 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago in November 2023, the USA have won four consecutive competitive matches against Caribbean teams, outscoring them 13-3. They’ve also won their last 21 Gold Cup games when scoring first, a streak dating back to the 2017 group stage.

The USA remain unbeaten in their last nine encounters with Haiti, including two recent 1-0 victories.

Despite playing over half their match against Trinidad and Tobago with 10 men, Haiti held on for a draw, keeping their quarter-final dreams alive. Coached by Sebastien Migne, Haiti must beat the USA and hope Saudi Arabia drop points against Trinidad and Tobago, while also avoiding being overtaken on goal difference.

Haiti are winless in their last three matches across all competitions but have won their final group game in two of the last three Gold Cup editions. They’ve won their last 10 matches when scoring at least twice and haven’t lost in such scenarios since a 3-2 defeat to Jamaica in October 2023.

Their last win against a North American team was a 3-2 comeback against Canada in the 2019 Gold Cup quarter-finals. Haiti haven’t beaten the USA since November 1973 (1-0) and their last victory on American soil was in 1969 (1-0).
