Arsenal faces Brighton & Hove Albion in an important Premier League clash at Emirates Stadium following a recent defeat to Aston Villa that saw Liverpool take a slight lead in the title race.

Mikel Arteta's team trails Liverpool by a point at the top of the table after a loss to Villa and Liverpool's comeback win against Crystal Palace. Despite Arsenal's setback, they still maintain a narrow lead over Villa and other contenders like Manchester City and Tottenham. They also secured their Champions League group's top spot with a draw against PSV.

However, Arsenal has some injury concerns heading into the Brighton match, missing key players like Jurriën Timber, Emile Smith Rowe, Thomas Partey, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Fábio Vieira, with Gabriel Martinelli's availability uncertain. On the bright side, Bukayo Saka remains a reliable asset, having contributed significantly to Arsenal's goals in recent home games.

Brighton, on the other hand, drew their last match against Burnley, and injuries to several players including Solly March, Danny Welbeck, and Tariq Lamptey pose challenges for their lineup. Pascal Groß has been in good form, contributing to goals, and Arsenal needs to be wary of defensive issues that might benefit players like Martin Ødegaard, who has historically performed well against Brighton.

Arsenal's record against Brighton hasn't been favorable lately, with Brighton winning their last three visits to Emirates Stadium and having a higher win rate there than any other visiting team since the stadium's opening in 2006. The recent Premier League meetings between the two sides have seen limited success for the home team, with Brighton securing a win in June 2020 and Arsenal claiming victory in May 2021.

Overall, the upcoming clash between Arsenal and Brighton promises to be a tightly contested match with both teams looking to secure crucial points in the league standings.

Last season, Arsenal suffered a 3-0 defeat against the same opponent at Emirates Stadium, which was a setback for their Premier League title aspirations. Goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav (now with Stuttgart), and Pervis Estupiñán led to this defeat. Although Arsenal managed a 4-2 win in their previous meeting at Amex Stadium last December, it wasn't enough to compensate for the disappointment.

Regarding recent performance, Arsenal's manager, Arteta, might find it puzzling to struggle against this particular team. Nonetheless, he can find solace in Arsenal's impressive record at home - they've gone unbeaten in 12 consecutive home games across various competitions. They've been consistent in scoring, netting at least twice in 11 of those matches since their 3-0 loss to Brighton in May.

Despite a series of victories against Luton Town, Wolves, Brentford, and Burnley, Arsenal faced a setback with a disappointing defeat against Aston Villa. Nevertheless, when Brighton visits, goals are expected as Brighton has scored in their last 32 Premier League games and conceded in their last 20, which marks their longest-ever scoring streak. On the defensive side, Brighton's vulnerability is evident as they've conceded first in their last four Premier League matches. However, their recent 3-2 loss to Chelsea was their sole defeat in this period, having drawn with Burnley and secured wins against Nottingham Forest and Brentford.

Contrarily, Arsenal has shown resilience, having fallen behind in only six Premier League games this season, the fewest among all teams. In those instances, they've managed to avoid defeat in four matches (winning two and drawing two), and they haven't lost any game in which they've taken the lead this season (winning 11 and drawing 2).

Arsenal is preparing to face Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium, seeking redemption after their previous Premier League home loss to the same team. A victory would temporarily place them back at the top of the rankings. However, Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, will watch from the director's box due to a suspension following a heated post-match outburst after their recent defeat to Newcastle United.

Despite Arteta's absence on the sidelines during their last match against Aston Villa, where they lost 0-1, he was frustrated by missed opportunities and contentious decisions. This loss saw Arsenal dethroned from their top spot in the league standings by Liverpool, with just a one-point lead over Aston Villa. However, Arsenal could regain the lead if they secure a win on Sunday before Liverpool's match against Manchester United later in the day.

While Arsenal drew 1-1 in their recent Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven, Arteta remains unfazed by this outcome, as both teams had already secured spots in the last 16. Arsenal's strong home record this season, having not lost a single home game, aims to continue as they seek their seventh consecutive home victory. Additionally, their defense has been robust, conceding only two goals in their last six home matches, a record better than Brighton's performance when they last met seven months ago.

Despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's contentious departure from North London, there was a chance he aimed to retaliate for his former team's recent losses to Brighton as his Marseille side clashed with Brighton at the Amex Stadium in a crucial Europa League match, battling for a spot in the last-16.

The win that Roberto De Zerbi's team desired seemed unlikely, yet in the 88th minute, Joao Pedro's sixth goal in the tournament - the most by any player - ensured Brighton's top position in Group B over Marseille and Ajax, joining Arsenal as group winners in Europe.

Brighton's three consecutive home games conclude with an away match, following a defeat to Chelsea two weeks ago and a narrow win against Brentford, followed by a 1-1 draw at home against Burnley, where they paid for missed chances, facing an outstanding performance from goalkeeper James Trafford.

Sitting just outside the European qualification spots in eighth position, Brighton is heading to North London having scored and conceded in their last 20 Premier League matches, with their last clean-sheet victory against Arteta's team in May. This win marked Brighton's third consecutive victory against Arsenal away from home, a record only surpassed by Arsenal's run of defeats at the Emirates against Manchester City.
