Trinidad & Tobago and Haiti Clash in Crucial Gold Cup Showdown
Two teams desperate for their first points of the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup will battle it out on Thursday when Trinidad & Tobago face Haiti at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.
Both sides are coming off tough opening losses—T&T were thrashed 5-0 by the U.S., while Haiti narrowly fell 1-0 to Saudi Arabia. For the Soca Warriors, Sunday’s heavy defeat was a brutal wake-up call, and they’ll be under serious pressure to bounce back before their tournament hopes slip away.
Defensive woes have haunted Dwight Yorke’s squad all year—they’ve conceded in eight of their nine 2025 matches, including five straight games letting in multiple goals. Their Gold Cup group-stage record is just as concerning, with three straight losses by a staggering 15-1 aggregate score.
Yet there’s a glimmer of hope: T&T have won three of their last four against Caribbean rivals, including a 6-2 demolition of Saint Kitts & Nevis earlier this month. History also shows that when they score first in the group stage, they usually avoid defeat—they’ve taken points in six straight such matches since 2007.
But Matchday 2 has been a curse for them—three straight losses, with just one goal scored in that span.
As for Haiti, their opener against Saudi Arabia was tight but frustrating—they created chances but couldn’t capitalize, extending their Gold Cup group-stage losing streak to two games. After riding a 10-game winning streak, Sébastien Migné’s side have now lost two in a row (6-1 combined score).
Another loss on Thursday—coupled with a Saudi Arabia-U.S. draw—would knock them out of the tournament. While they’ve been strong against Caribbean opponents (9 wins in 10), a recent 5-1 thrashing by Curaçao in World Cup qualifying raises questions.
Worse yet, when trailing or tied at halftime in Gold Cup group games, Haiti have lost their last three. But they’ll take confidence from their recent dominance over T&T, including a 2-0 win the last time they met at the Gold Cup (2013).
