Atletico Madrid is aiming for their sixth consecutive victory in all competitions as they prepare to resume their La Liga campaign against Celta Vigo this Saturday night.

Diego Simeone's team is currently in the fourth position on the La Liga table, trailing the leaders Real Madrid by five points, with one game in hand. In contrast, Celta Vigo is currently positioned 18th, having accumulated just six points from their first nine matches.

Celta managed to secure a draw with Getafe in their most recent match before the international break, but this result extended their winless streak in La Liga to five games, including three losses. The Sky Blues have only managed one victory in their initial nine league matches this season, leaving them in the 18th spot in the standings, tied on points with 19th-placed Granada.

Rafael Benitez's team is only three points behind 13th-placed Cadiz, so a win this weekend would significantly improve their standing. However, they are about to face a challenging series of fixtures, with upcoming league games against Girona, Sevilla, and Athletic Bilbao.

Celta Vigo finished 13th in La Liga last season and has been a fixture in the league since gaining promotion in the 2011-12 season, making it unlikely for them to be relegated this season.

It's worth noting that Celta Vigo has not won against Atletico in their last four league encounters and hasn't beaten them in the top flight since September 2018.

Celta believed that things would be different this year with the hiring of Rafa Benitez after a season in which they battled against relegation for much of the campaign and only avoided the drop with a win against champions Barcelona on the last day of the season. The unexpected sale of Gabri Veiga, however, has caused an overall negative atmosphere at the club.

After eight games in the 2023–24 La Liga season, the Galicians are now in the bottom three and the relegation spots heading into this weekend's round of games. Their most recent game, a few weeks prior to the October international break, ended in a 2-2 draw against ten-man Getafe at home, with Benitez under considerable strain.

Atletico narrowly won a closely contested match against Real Sociedad just before the international break, thanks to Antoine Griezmann's 89th-minute penalty that secured a 2-1 victory at Wanda Metropolitano.

Simeone's team has been on a winning streak in the league, claiming victories in their last four matches, including the highly anticipated Madrid derby against Real Madrid. In addition, they've accumulated four points from their first two Champions League group stage games, making for a promising start to the season.

In La Liga, Atletico currently holds the fourth position with 19 points, trailing Real Madrid, the leaders, by five points with a game in hand. Their match against Sevilla in early September was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

Looking ahead, Atletico faces a significant European fixture against Celtic next week, and their upcoming La Liga fixtures appear favorable, so it wouldn't be surprising to see them continue their winning streak.

In the previous season, Atletico finished third in La Liga, falling just one point short of second-placed Real Madrid. The team has displayed numerous positive signs in the first couple of months of the current campaign, hinting at their potential to compete for silverware in the 2023-24 season.

Diego Simeone appeared to be finally leaving Atletico Madrid, but following the break, Los Rojiblancos' performance drastically improved in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In addition to Barcelona and Real Madrid, the competitors in the Clasico, having their own problems and Atletico enjoying a quiet but successful transfer window, they entered this season anticipating another exceptional campaign.

Indeed, the beginning has been unique and outstanding thus far. Atletico has only lost once and shared just one draw in their first eight games of the season. Prior to the international break, they defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 at home, and as a result, they are presently on a four-match winning streak in La Liga.

Celta Vigo is currently enduring a poor run of form in the league, having gone five matches without a win. Their upcoming match on Saturday presents a tough challenge as they face an in-form Atletico Madrid team as the visiting side.

In contrast, Atletico Madrid is enjoying a five-match winning streak and holds a remarkable nine-game unbeaten record against Celta Vigo in their head-to-head matchups.

Celta Vigo's struggles are particularly evident when playing at home, where they have a five-match winless streak, suffering three losses in the process. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid has been performing well on the road, remaining unbeaten in seven of their last eight away matches across all competitions.

Adding to Atletico Madrid's advantage is their recent success at this stadium, with a three-game winning streak against Celta Vigo. As a result, we anticipate a victory for Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

When they play host to a hot Atletico Madrid team in La Liga, Celta Vigo will want to start laying out a plan to move up the standings. The Estadio Municipal de Balados will host this game on Saturday with the home team sitting in 18th place with six points and the visitors in fourth place with 19 points. After a 2-2 draw with Getafe before to the break, Celta entered the international break two points outside of the zone of safety. In their previous five league games, they had two draws and three losses. In reality, they have only won one La Liga game this entire season, losing five and drawing three. Although Celta has scored 11 goals this season, surrendering 15 has been an issue. Goals haven't been a problem, though.

Atletico has a game in hand but is trailing Real by five points at the half. They have won four straight La Liga games and are essentially the division's hot team. This included having just defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 before the break. They defeated Real Madrid 3-1 during that run, demonstrating the progression of their form. Their 20 goals, which are tied for the second-most in the league, have made ripples for their scoring record. They have only given up eight goals at the other end of the field this season, which is second only to Real Madrid in the league.

Due to the muscular injury Mihailo Ristic sustained against Getafe before the international break, Celta will be without him on Saturday, which is expected to provide room for Manu Sanchez to enter the starting lineup.

The Sky Blues are in fantastic shape overall, and Benitez would have been happy with his team's attacking play against Getafe even though Franco Cervi is still out injured.

Iago Aspas should continue to play with Jorgen Strand Larsen in the final third of the field despite missing a penalty in the team's most recent game and yet to score this season.

Vitolo, Jose Gimenez, Memphis Depay, Thomas Lemar, and Reinildo won't be available for Atletico to play this weekend. The capital team has a number of injury issues early in the 2023–24 season, thus Angel Correa, Caglar Soyuncu, and Pablo Barrios are also big questions.

For this weekend's game, Stefan Savic might rejoin the back three, but other than that, it might be the same lineup that hit the field against Real Sociedad last time out. Alvaro Morata, 30, is expected to continue playing with Griezmann in the final third of the pitch after scoring five La Liga goals in a solid start to the season.
