After their impressive performance in Rome last week, Genoa is gearing up for a clash in Turin this Sunday, where they aim to secure back-to-back Serie A victories at the expense of Torino. In contrast, Torino is still searching for their first league win this season after a heavy defeat in Milan.

Genoa made their mark by defeating Lazio in their first away game since promotion, with Perr Schuurs canceling out Milan's opener in their last match. However, Torino struggled, conceding two more goals before halftime and ultimately losing 4-1, failing to register another shot on target.

Torino's only victory from their first three matches came at home to Feralpisalo in the Coppa Italia first round, following a disappointing performance on Serie A's opening day against promoted Cagliari. Even Antonio Sanabria, last season's top scorer, has failed to find the net this season.

To alleviate the pressure on Sanabria, Torino has acquired experienced campaigner Duvan Zapata from Atalanta BC, although he will miss this weekend's game due to injury.

Head coach Ivan Juric, who previously played for Genoa and managed them, now welcomes his former club to Turin. Juric faced a challenging stint with only nine wins during his time at Genoa, but he has since found success at Verona and now Torino. The pressure is on him to secure Torino's first league win before the international break.

Genoa's recent history against Torino has been marked by a 1-0 win as they fought to avoid relegation in 2022. Returning to Serie A as runners-up in Serie B last season, they aim to secure another victory against Torino this Sunday.

While their Serie A return included a heavy home defeat to Fiorentina, Genoa managed to secure a brave 1-0 win over Lazio thanks to Mateo Retegui's summer signing. If they win against Torino, it would mark the first time in their history that Genoa has won their first two away games in a Serie A season.

Coach Alberto Gilardino is likely preparing his team for a defensively oriented season, given their low possession statistics and a focus on points rather than ball control.

In the previous Serie A season (2023/24), Torino finished mid-table but struggled with a lack of goals and cutting edge towards the end of the campaign, under the management of Ivan Juric. They've started this season with just one point from two matches, highlighting their goal-scoring woes.

Genoa, under Alberto Gilardino's leadership, earned automatic promotion from Serie B last season. They have made significant signings over the summer, including Mateo Retegui. While they started the season with an entertaining 4-3 Coppa Italia win against Modena, they faced a tough loss against Fiorentina but bounced back with a surprising 1-0 victory over Lazio.

On the other hand, Torino has had a poor start to the league campaign, with a draw against Cagliari and a heavy loss to AC Milan.
