High-flying Strasbourg will play struggling Lens at the Stade de la Meinau in Friday's Ligue 1 match.

Last weekend, the visitors earned their first victory of the year while the hosts won their third game in a row. With 10 points out of a possible 18 for the Alsace team, Strasbourg has had a strong start to life under Patrick Vieira and is still in striking distance of the early leaders in the French top division.

Le Racing, who have won three of their six games so far this season, are currently sixth in the Ligue 1 standings, three points behind leaders Brest and six points ahead of Lens. They are also two games unbeaten coming into Friday's matchup.

Strasbourg lost to Nice just before the international break, but they returned to action with a 2-2 draw against Montpellier and then won their most recent match 1-0 over Metz. Strasbourg had previously defeated Lyon and Toulouse in August by scores of 2-1 and 2-0, respectively.

The fact that only the lowest four teams have scored less goals than Strasbourg's seven, though, should serve as a reminder that Vieira will be pushing his players to be more decisive as they try to keep up with the top teams in the division.

After six failed tries, Lens finally achieved success last time out, coming from behind to defeat Toulouse 2-1 thanks to goals from Wesley Said and Morgan Guilavogui in the 84th and 84th minutes, respectively.

There is no disputing that Franck Haise's team deserved all three points last weekend. At the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, the home team accumulated 62% possession and 27 shots, while the visitors only managed two attempts on goal during the game.

After six games, the runners-up from last season have only collected four points out of a possible 18, suffering consecutive losses to Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, and Metz before their win over Toulouse.

Only fellow strugglers Lyon and Clermont have scored fewer goals than Lens, and the Blood and Gold have the joint-worst defensive record in the French top division, so Haise will be eager to capitalise on last weekend's triumph.
