The standout fixture of gameweek 21 in the Primeira Liga will feature Sporting Lisbon facing Braga at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Sunday evening.

Sporting Lisbon, currently occupying second place in the league table with 49 points from 19 matches, will host Braga, who sit in fourth place, trailing their opponents by nine points with one additional game played.

Sporting Lisbon experienced a change in the league leadership last week due to the postponement of their match against Famalicao, citing security concerns at Estadio Municipal de Famalicao.

Returning to action midweek, Sporting secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Uniao de Leiria in the Taca de Portugal, earning them a spot in the semi-finals against rivals Benfica. In their recent league encounter, Ruben Amorim's team dominated Casa Pia with an 8-0 victory, extending their winning streak to six league matches since their December loss to Vitoria de Guimaraes.

Sporting Lisbon has displayed a flawless record at home this season, winning all 10 of their league games at Estadio Jose Alvalade, scoring two or more goals in all but one match.

In their previous encounter earlier in the season, Sporting Lisbon and Braga played to a 1-1 draw, maintaining Sporting's unbeaten streak against Braga to three matches, including two victories and a draw.

In the meantime, Braga will enter Sunday's match with strong momentum, having recently secured their first trophy of the season by defeating Estoril Praia 5-4 on penalties in the Taca da Liga at the end of last month.

Following this victory, Braga drew 1-1 against Chaves and won 1-0 against Moreirense last weekend, extending their unbeaten streak to five matches across all competitions. In their last ten games in the league, they suffered only defeats against Porto and Braga.

Throughout the season, Artur Jorge's team has amassed 22 points out of a possible 30 in away matches, with a record of seven wins, one draw, and just two losses in ten away games.

Braga has relied heavily on their strong attacking prowess for much of the season, but they now face a formidable opponent with the best goal-scoring record, having scored 21 goals in their last six home games.

Sporting will be missing Ivan Fresneda and Jerry St Juste due to shoulder and foot injuries, respectively, for the upcoming match. Additionally, Paulinho is uncertain to play due to a knock. Hidemasa Morita rejoins the squad after his time at the Asian Cup and might play. Ousmane Diomande will participate in the Africa Cup of Nations final for Ivory Coast.

Simon Banza won't be available for Braga due to his ongoing involvement in the AFCON, while Sikou Niakate could feature after returning from the tournament. Bruma and Adrian Marin are sidelined with knee injuries, likely leading to Alvaro Djalo, Ricardo Horta, and Vitor Carvalho forming the attacking midfield trio.
