SJ Earthquakes vs Inter Miami

San Jose Earthquakes will come face to face with Inter Miami in their second meeting in the Major League Soccer men’s soccer at PayPal Park on Thursday.

The hosts will be out to record their third consecutive victory in the league and fourth on the whole while the visitors will seek to pick their third win in six domestic games.

After a poor run of three defeats in April, San Jose Earthquakes have come roaring back into life, winning two in a row in the league and three on the trot in all editions.

In their last road trip, Goonies recorded a 2-0 victory over Colorado Rapids in Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and this was achieved courtesy of Dejuane Jones and Cristian Arango goals.

That evening they moved from 10th place to the 7th in the conference standings having registered 16 points, six point behind the 2nd placed Minnesota United.

Although his team have had a poor defensive record in the season up until now, having conceded 20 goals (which is the joint-third highest in the West), Bruce Arena will be happy with their offensive quality having seen them score 26 goals the highest in the top flight.

The Quakes have hit the back of the net 16 times over their last 6 league meetings to make them lethal in the final third.

After suffering the humiliating 4-1 defeat to Minnesota United last weekend at the Allianz Field, Inter Miami had hoped to record back-to-back wins in the league for a first time during March, but the home side tormented them as it handed them 4-1 thumping.

Since registering four successive league wins in March, the Herons, have found it difficult to remain consistent picking up only two wins in six games with the other four games being a win and a couple of losses.

Despite a recent dip in form with just two wins in their last six league matches, Javier Mascherano’s squad remains strong in the Eastern Conference, sitting fourth with 21 points from 11 games. They trail leaders FC Cincinnati and second-place Columbus Crew by just four points, with both teams locked at 25 points.

A win for the visitors could propel them past Philadelphia Union into third—depending on other match results going their way.

Defensive concerns linger, however, as Vice City has let in nine goals in their last five league outings. Their backline will face a tough test against the hosts, who have been in dominant form.

On the bright side, the away team can take confidence from their impressive road record—three away wins in 2025, tying them for the best in the league.
