Sevilla is eager to secure their first La Liga points this season when they host Las Palmas at Estadio Ramon on Sunday evening.

Las Palmas currently sits at the bottom of the league table, having lost all three of their league games this season. In contrast, Las Palmas is positioned 18th, with just two points from their first four league matches in the 2023-24 season.

Sevilla's game against Atletico Madrid, originally planned just before the international break, had to be postponed due to heavy rain in Madrid. As a result, the Europa League champions have not played since their 2-1 home loss to Girona on August 26.

Mendilibar's team has also suffered defeats to Valencia and Alaves in La Liga this season, leaving them with no points from three games and at the bottom of the standings.

Sevilla also faced a setback when they were defeated by Manchester City in the UEFA Super Cup in the middle of last month. Despite these early-season challenges, the international break provided them with a breather, and a victory against Las Palmas could give them a much-needed boost.

Sevilla is set to kick off their Champions League group-stage campaign against Lens next week, making it intriguing to see how they perform in European competition.

Sevilla's poor performance this season isn't entirely surprising, given that they finished 12th in La Liga last season, their lowest position since being relegated from the top flight in 1999-2000.

Las Palmas has also struggled early in the 2023-24 campaign, with only two points from four matches, placing them in 18th place in the table. They started with a 1-1 draw against Mallorca on August 12 but then lost 1-0 to Valencia in their second match of the season.

Las Palmas followed this with a goalless draw against Real Sociedad and a 1-0 loss to Girona just before the international break. They currently have the lowest number of goals scored in the league, with only one.

After securing promotion from the Segunda Division last season, Las Palmas is looking to establish themselves in La Liga after five consecutive seasons in the second tier. However, they haven't beaten Sevilla in La Liga since September 2015, losing each of their last five top-flight matches against them.

Sevilla is expected to welcome back Sergio Ramos, who is making his second debut for the club after rejoining on a free transfer. Mariano Diaz and Boubakary Soumare are also set to make their debuts after the summer transfer window strengthened the Sevilla squad.

Youssef En-Nesyri, who was linked with a move away over the summer, is expected to start for Sevilla. However, the team will be without five players due to injuries: Jesus Navas, Marcos Acuna, Marcao, Tanguy Nianzou, and Alfonso Pastor.

Las Palmas, on the other hand, will miss Daley Sinkgraven, Marvin Park, and Fabio Gonzalez. Alberto Moleiro and Sandro Ramirez are uncertain due to fitness concerns and will undergo late tests to determine their availability.

Expect no major surprises in the Las Palmas lineup, with Munir El Haddadi and Jonathan Viera likely to feature in attacking positions, and Sory Kaba as the center-forward.

Both teams are under pressure to secure points, with Sevilla yet to earn any points in three matches and Las Palmas also struggling with two points from four games. Sevilla's postponed match against Atlético Madrid might have provided them with some respite, but they remain at the bottom of the table.

Las Palmas, who returned to La Liga after a promotion, is also in the relegation zone, albeit with two more points than Sevilla. They drew their home matches against Mallorca and Real Sociedad but lost both of their away games, most recently in the last minute to Girona.

Jose Luis Mendilibar's team has won six straight games against Las Palmas and will aim to continue this streak over the weekend.

Sevilla's woes continued as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Girona in their last match before the international break. This marked their fourth consecutive loss in all competitions this season, including a penalty shootout loss to Manchester City in the UEFA Super Cup on August 16.

Sevilla remains the only team in La Liga without any points after three rounds of matches this season, firmly positioned at the bottom of the table. Meanwhile, Las Palmas has struggled to find their form, with no wins in their opening four matches, including two losses and two draws.

With only two points out of a possible 12, Garcia Pimienta's squad currently sits in 18th place in the league standings, tied on points with Mallorca in 17th place.
