When Real Sociedad hosts Valencia at the Reale Arena on Thursday in a La Liga match, they will be looking to rebound from a loss to Barcelona.

Los Che is six points behind the hosts in eighth place in the league standings as of the start of matchday 36.

Real Sociedad is on the verge of securing European football with 54 points from 35 games, a comfortable six points ahead of Valencia and Villarreal.

They will now have to battle to exchange their current Europa Conference League berth for a spot in the Europa League, since they were unable to match their fourth-place performance from the previous season.

After losing 2-0 on the road at Barcelona on Monday, the Basque team will start the matchday in seventh position, one point behind sixth-place Real Betis. They have now won only one of their past five games (D2, L2).

Imanol Alguacil's team will visit the Reale Arena after suffering a setback at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, where they will attempt to win the league on home turf for the first time since 2024.

For the first time since the 2016–17 campaign, they are also attempting to accomplish a La Liga double against Valencia. In September, they prevailed in the rematch, owing in large part to an effort from Carlos Fernandez.

Sociedad is aware that it would be difficult to earn all three points because, after defeating Valencia 3-0 in February 2020, they have lost their past three home games against the team (D2, L1).

Valencia has only managed one point from their previous four games, and they are now experiencing a bad run of play at a critical juncture in the season.

Los Che were subjected to a painful goalless stalemate by Rayo Vallecano in their Saturday home match after suffering three straight losses to Betis, Barcelona, and Alaves.

Valencia's prospects of qualifying for Europe are in shambles as they lay six points behind their opponents on Thursday after collecting 48 points from 35 games.

With three games remaining against Real Sociedad, Girona, and Celta Vigo, Los Che may already surpass last season's total by six points, so even if they miss out on European competition, they can still be happy of their efforts.

Valencia may feel confident because two of their five wins came in their last three away league games, even though they have only managed five wins out of their 17 away games all season.

In their past six road games against Real Sociedad, the visitors have won three, drawn two, and lost one. They have also performed admirably in their recent excursions to the Reale Arena.
