It is on Wednesday that, in a bid to keep the title race running for at least 24 more hours, Real Madrid will host Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos are seven points behind the leaders Barcelona after Sunday’s 4-3 defeat in El Clasico, and the visitors will be going into matchday 36 in ninth position.

Real Madrid are in the brink of losing their La Liga crown to their old rivals Barcelona after they lost their title aspirations after yesterday’s defeat at hands of Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Two goals in the opening 15 minutes of the game from Kylian Mbappe helped put Real Madrid on a great start, but, immediately, the half backfired on Los Blancos as Barcelona scored four goals, three in 13 minutes, with the same coming to lead 4-2 at halftime.

Mbappe managed to find the net in the 70th minute to become the third player in the 21st century to net a La Liga hat-trick but his exploits did count for very little as Real Madrid suffered their fourth Clasico loss of the season to put the clubs seven points behind with three league games left to be played.

Consequently, the title could be given to their rivals by Los Blancos on Wednesday if the latter do not beat Mallorca, and only a victory at least prolongs their dim hopes for 24 additional hours until Barcelona take on the Catalan rivals Espanyol on Thursday.

Last time when they played Real Madrid, Mallorca lost 3-0 in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final in Saudi Arabia, but they could find some encouragement from the fact that they managed to earn a 1-1 draw with Los Blancos in the reverse league fixture on the opening day of the season.

Real Madrid Aim for Strong Finish as Ancelotti Prepares for Exit

Though the La Liga title may be out of reach, Real Madrid will still want to end their season on a high in their final three matches against Mallorca, Sevilla, and Real Sociedad. These games will serve as a farewell to Carlo Ancelotti, who is set to leave for the Brazil national team, making way for Xabi Alonso’s anticipated arrival at the Bernabéu.

Madrid will be confident heading into Wednesday’s clash, having won 14 of their 17 home league games this season (D1, L2), including recent victories over Athletic Bilbao and Celta Vigo. Their dominance over Mallorca at home is particularly striking—Los Blancos have won their last eight league meetings at the Bernabéu, scoring 25 goals while keeping four clean sheets.

Mallorca Seek European Dream Amid Tough Away Form

Mallorca arrive in the capital boosted by a 2-1 win over relegated Real Valladolid, ending a three-match winless streak. Jagoba Arrasate’s side had to fight back after conceding first, with Omar Mascarell and Sergi Darder securing the comeback victory. The result leaves them ninth, level on 47 points with eighth-placed Rayo Vallecano.

Securing a top-eight finish and Conference League qualification would mark a successful debut season for Arrasate. Even Europa League football isn’t out of reach, with just two points separating them from seventh-placed Celta Vigo.

However, their away form could be a major obstacle—two of their last three games are on the road, where they’ve lost five of their last eight, including three of the last four by a 1-0 margin. Their struggles in front of goal have been evident, failing to score in eight of 17 away league matches this season—a record only worse than Getafe and Real Sociedad.

Facing an in-form Madrid side at the Bernabéu will be a tough challenge, but Mallorca still have plenty to fight for in their remaining fixtures.
