Rangers vs Dundee United

On Wednesday night Ibrox Stadium, Rangers, who are certain to be runners-up in the Scottish Premiership, host European hopefuls Dundee United.

Though this is no risk for the hosts, the visitors are still fighting to get into the top 4, being fifth in the table with three points short of the European places.

Rangers, who had managed to find a second place in the Scottish Premiership, have had a season filled with many challenges and obstacles.

Philippe Clement’s Gers started the season and they performed so disastrously to begin the league with 12 games played resulting to the worst start by a team after returning to the top flight in 2016-17 and other unsatisfactory records followed.

Rangers crashed to a disappointing 1-0 defeat by Queen’s Park in the fifth round of the Scottish FA Cup in February, a result with which mark their first home loss to a lower-division side in the Scottish FA Cup, during their 153-year history.

Clement was sacked only two games later after a 2-0 defeat against St Mirren which put Barry Ferguson in charge as the interim manager for the rest of the season, with the caretaker boss keen to stamp his credentials for a permanent role.

After starting his reign with a victory in four of his first six games, Ferguson suffered a winless streak of six matches, but Rangers put that behind them in a demolishing 4-0 victory over Aberdeen last time out, his first win at Ibrox as manager.

Now looking to carry on that momentum in the final two games of the campaign, Rangers will welcome a Dundee United side that are still fighting to get into Europe for the league.

Dundee United have over performed in their first season back in the top flight, maintaining the momentum generated in last season’s Scottish Championship title triumph. The Tangerines look every likely to surprise everyone once again and have the chance to fight for a top four spot.
