PSG Set to Wrap Up Ligue 1 Season Against Mid-Table Auxerre

Paris Saint-Germain will host Auxerre at the Parc des Princes on Saturday in a final-day Ligue 1 clash that holds little significance for either side. The champions are already crowned, and Auxerre are comfortably mid-table, making this a straightforward end-of-season affair.

PSG come into the match fresh off a dominant 4-1 win over relegated Montpellier, while Auxerre settled for a 1-1 draw against Nantes. With their focus firmly on the upcoming Champions League final against Inter Milan, PSG’s young stars took center stage in their last outing.

Manager Luis Enrique fielded the youngest starting XI in the club’s Ligue 1 history—averaging just 21 years and 251 days—yet they dismantled Montpellier with ease. Eighteen-year-old Senny Mayulu opened the scoring just before halftime, and 23-year-old Gonçalo Ramos stole the show with a second-half hat-trick, rendering Tanguy Coulibaly’s consolation goal irrelevant.

Having sealed the league title weeks ago, PSG’s domestic form dipped slightly, with three winless games before their Montpellier rout. But they’ve regained momentum at the right time, with the Ligue 1 finale serving as a warm-up for two crucial finals: the Coupe de France against Reims on May 24 and the Champions League showdown with Inter.

A draw or win would also see PSG set a new record points tally (82) for an 18-team Ligue 1 season, surpassing Saint-Étienne’s 81-point mark from 1969-70. For Auxerre, defeat would hardly be a disaster, as they’ve already secured their top-flight status—a significant improvement from their previous promotion campaign, which ended in immediate relegation.

Under Christophe Pélissier’s guidance, Auxerre have stabilized in Ligue 1 after winning promotion last season. Sitting mid-table with 42 points, they can finish no lower than 12th, though a top-half position is out of reach. However, their recent form has been shaky, with just one win in their last five matches.

Despite Gaëtan Perrin’s goal against Nantes extending their scoring streak to nine games, Auxerre have struggled against PSG, failing to win any of their last five meetings. On paper, the Parisians should have no trouble ending their league campaign with a comfortable victory.
