The FIFA men’s international season is ending on Sunday as Portugal and Spain meet in Munich for the UEFA Nations League final.
On Sunday, two top soccer countries, Portugal and Spain, will face each other in an extremely exciting final game. It is likely that this year’s Portugal-Spain match will be won by a team that already has a European Cup title, with Portugal grabbing the trophy in 2019 and Spain achieving it just recently and France being in the middle.

Portugal played against Germany in their match on Wednesday and now has a one-day advantage before this game. Thanks to their solidity and threatening attack, the Portuguese were able to equalise and stay a huge threat during the game, despite being outclassed in possession. Ronaldo claimed praise as usual with the goal, but it was the middle of the field that made the difference in the game with Fernandes, Neves, Silva, and its game-winning substitute, Vitinha.

The way the midfielders managed to move into threatening zones was virtually flawless, so the Germans were unable to deal with it. Vitinha will most probably start in midfield, and they could turn out to be stronger than the Spanish midfield players. Portugal’s issue relates to their attack. Even though he is a legend, Ronaldo is not at his peak anymore, while the other players playing near him on the Portuguese team are not as creative or dangerous as some of Spain’s players.

Spain is riding a wave of momentum. After their dominant Euro victory last summer, they’ve proven themselves as the team to beat—unbeaten in an impressive 19-game streak and already looking like strong favorites for next year’s World Cup. Their defense has tightened up, thanks in part to Dean Huijsen’s breakout season at Bournemouth, but their real strength lies in their electrifying attack, especially out wide.

Mikel Oyarzabal, operating centrally for Real Sociedad, hasn’t quite hit his stride this season—failing to reach double-digit league goals—leaving Spain’s striker role as their weakest link. But with Nico Williams’ blistering pace and dazzling dribbling, and Lamine Yamal emerging as the team’s brightest star, Spain’s firepower is simply terrifying.

Portugal might take a little hope from France’s near-comeback in their recent thriller against Spain (narrowly losing 5-4 after being down 4-1). But let’s be honest—Spain’s defense doesn’t have to be bulletproof when their attack strikes fear into every opponent. If Spain scores first, this game is as good as over. Even if Portugal grabs an early lead, containing Spain’s relentless offense will be a massive challenge. With odds this good, backing Spain is the smart move.
