A friendly between Peru and Paraguay will be place at Estadio Monumental "U" in Lima on Friday in anticipation of the next Copa America.

The Peruvians have won their last game, 1-0 against Colombia, and have gone three games without a loss in all competitions. Meanwhile, La Albirroja has lost their last two games, losing to the Dominican Republic 4-1 in March.

Peru's fortunes have turned around this year thanks to a managerial change, and they have a lot of hope going into the Copa America, which starts later this month.

Upon taking over, Jorge Fossati has only won his first two games in charge of the squad, which had lost its previous seven games across all competitions.

Under their Uruguayan coach, Los Incas have scored six goals in their first two games—one more than they had in their previous twelve games across all competitions.

They had not trailed in any of their previous three meetings in Peru, coming into this game on a three-match winning streak.

It's fortunate that they were able to take the lead right away since this side has struggled to come back from behind, losing eight straight games after giving up the first goal and only managing one reply goal.

Even if they are improving in 2024, it has been more than a year since they last triumphed over a CONMEBOL team—they did so 1-0 against Bolivia in a friendly match in November 2022.

Though perhaps a break was necessary given that Paraguay has only won once in their past six competitive games, it has been more than six months since this team last competed internationally.

The Paraguayans struggled mightily in the offensive third throughout that stretch, failing to reach the back of the net in five of those games.

In their last six road games across all competitions, Daniel Garnero's team has not won and has only scored once (a 3-2 loss to Chile).

Despite their recent difficulties, Paraguay is presently clinging onto an inter-confederation playoff position in 2026 World Cup qualification, only three points separating them in seventh place from Ecuador in fifth.

When they score first, it's typically a positive sign; after taking the lead in all competitions for four straight games, the Paraguayans did not let up a goal in any of those games.

Los Guaranies have not won in their last 11 road games against Peru; their lone victory came in a friendly match in February 2009 (1-0).
