On Friday night, Peru will play a friendly match against El Salvador in the US to round off its Copa America preparations.

El Salvador will return to competitive action in the CONCACAF Nations League in September, while the White and Reds will play their opening Copa America match against Chile on June 21.

After two 2026 World Cup qualifying games, El Salvador will go into Friday's friendly as the national team is now playing in Group F of the second round.

After a crucial 3-1 triumph over Saint Vincent & the Grenadines last time out, La Selecta drew 0-0 with Puerto Rico to take third place in the section with four points from two games.

Now, David Doniga's team will play friendlies against Peru and Guatemala before playing Montserrat in the CONCACAF Nations League to resume competitive play at the beginning of September.

El Salvador will take on Peru for the seventh time in their history. They have faced off twice before, winning 2-0 in a friendly in March 2019. However, Peru prevailed 4-1 in their most recent meeting, which took place in September 2022.

After defeating Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, La Selecata achieved their first victory since June 2022. They will now try to win back-to-back games for the first time since mid-2021.

Peru, on the other hand, comes into this game coming off of friendly victories over the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua in March, as well as a 0-0 stalemate with Paraguay.

After finishing their Copa America preparations against El Salvador, Jorge Fossati's team will take against Chile on June 21 in the 2024 tournament. In addition, they will play Canada and Argentina in the competition's group stage.

It wouldn't be shocking to see the White and Reds move far in this year's competition, as they were runners-up in 2019 and placed fourth in the 2021 Copa America.

Peru, on the other hand, won the South American Championship in 1939 and went on to win their first Copa America in 1975. Since since, they have consistently advanced to the tournament's knockout round.

Prior to their Copa America opening against Chile, the White and Reds will be looking to build on their recent success, having won three of their past five friendlies.
