This Sunday’s Derby of the Eternal Enemies between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos marks matchday 20 of the Greek Super League and will take place at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus. This showdown between the league-leading Erythroleykoi and the second-placed Trifýlli is a pivotal top-of-the-table encounter.

Olympiacos currently sits atop the standings with 43 points, holding a four-point advantage over Panathinaikos. While both teams are well-positioned to secure spots in the Championship play-offs, the stakes in this clash go far beyond a single victory.

The hosts come into the match on the back of a 1-0 win at Porto in the Europa League on Thursday, extending their unbeaten streak to 17 matches across all competitions, with 11 wins and six draws. Their league form has been equally impressive, with nine wins and one draw in their last ten games, including a 2-1 victory at Atromitos last weekend.

The reverse fixture between these sides ended in a goalless draw last October, marking the beginning of Olympiacos' 13-match unbeaten run in the league. That stretch includes nine wins and four draws, highlighted by a 1-0 triumph over AEK Athens at home last weekend.

Meanwhile, Panathinaikos has improved their away form in recent weeks, registering five wins and one draw in their last six competitive matches on the road. However, they’ll be looking to bounce back from a 2-2 draw at Panserraikos, where they let a 2-0 lead slip.

Olympiacos solidified their position at the top of the table with a remarkable 2-1 victory over Atromitos, extending their lead to four points. They also boast the league’s best home record, amassing 23 points from nine matches.

Panathinaikos, on the other hand, secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over AEK Athens in their latest league outing, thanks to Fotis Ioannidis’ successful penalty. This result places them second in the standings with 39 points. Additionally, their strong away form is evident, as they haven’t suffered a league defeat on the road since October 2024.

While bookmakers have Olympiacos as slight favorites, their unbeaten home record makes them the frontrunners for a dominant performance. With both teams featuring some of the league’s most potent attacking units, fans can expect an exciting game filled with goals from both sides.
