Concluding an impressive Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain are set to head to the Stade Saint-Symphorien this Sunday to take on a Metz team that is fighting to avoid relegation in the playoffs.

While the team led by Luis Enrique enjoys their position at the top, their opponents are currently placed 16th in the final standings of the season and are at risk of automatic relegation depending on the upcoming results.

Although Metz showed promise with consecutive victories over Lens and Le Havre in April, their hopes for a miraculous escape from the relegation zone were shattered by a series of three consecutive defeats, putting them in serious danger of dropping back to Ligue 2.

Despite putting up strong resistance in high-scoring matches against Rennes and Lille at home, Metz ended up on the losing side in both games. However, neither of these losses was as devastating as their late collapse against Strasbourg in the second-to-last match of the season.

As a result, despite being three points ahead of 17th-placed Lorient, currently positioned 16th in the league, they still need to bridge a three-point gap to surpass Le Havre in 15th place. This situation leaves them precariously poised, needing at least a draw to avoid the threat of relegation, but with a challenging task ahead to avoid the playoff for relegation/promotion.

Should they find themselves in the relegation/promotion playoff scenario, Metz would encounter one of the three Ligue 2 teams in a series of matches to determine their top-flight status. However, amidst the disappointment, supporters can find solace in the team's impressive scoring streak in the top division, which spans 11 games, marking their longest run since 1995.
