Despite falling behind 1-0 to Chelsea, the Brazilian team rallied to secure the win, guaranteeing their place in the knockout stage with a game to spare. With their group-topping position already locked in, their final group match holds little consequence, while LAFC, having lost both of their opening games, are already eliminated.

Under Filipe Luis, Flamengo earned their 2025 Club World Cup berth through their 2022 Copa Libertadores triumph. This marks their third appearance in the tournament, having previously participated in 2019 and 2022.

While European giants like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid are favored to lift the trophy, Flamengo’s strong early performances position them as serious contenders.

LAFC, on the other hand, began their group stage with a 2-0 loss to Chelsea on June 16 and followed it with a 1-0 defeat to ES Tunis, sealing their exit. Competing in their debut Club World Cup, the MLS side faced an uphill battle from the start and now plays only for pride in their final match.

Steve Cherundolo’s team qualified for the tournament by defeating Club America in a playoff at the end of May. Despite their early exit, LAFC, a club less than 11 years old, can draw optimism from reaching this global stage, signaling a promising future.
