Following a lackluster 1-0 victory against Darmstadt in their Bundesliga debut, Eintracht Frankfurt will focus on the first leg of their qualification match against Levski Sofia in Bulgaria.
Coach Dino Topmöller of Eintracht cautioned against underestimating the Bulgarian team, which has previously defeated Skhupi and Hapoel Beer Sheva in qualifying.
"We anticipate a formidable opponent who will use a 4-3-3 to try to seize the initiative. Though it will be a challenging undertaking, we are confident in our ability to complete it, said Toppmöller.
The hosts hold an undefeated streak after starting their qualifying campaign in the second round and won three of their four games. Levski defeated Shkupi 3-0 on aggregate in the first round. Levski and Hapoel Be'er Sheva drew 0-0 in the first round before triumphing 2-1 at home last week.
The two teams will meet for the first time.Levski have just three wins in 14 games against German teams, losing six.Frankfurt have met a Bulgarian opponent just once - Spartak Plovdiv - in the Intertoto Cup in 1995, winning 4-0.The visitors have won both their competitive games thus far without conceding.
Levski have suffered just one defeat in eight qualifying games in the Conference League, with that defeat coming at home last season. They have won their last four home games, keeping three clean sheets.
Frankfurt, meanwhile, have got their 2023-24 season off to a flying start, scoring eight unanswered goals in two games. They have won seven of their last nine away games in Europe. Manager Dino Toppmoller, who was appointed in June, has served as an assistant coach to Julian Nagelsmann and should field a strong team.
While Levski have won their last four home games and have had a week's rest, they're expected to fall short against the young and energetic visitors.
Frankfurt, on the other hand, secured a straight berth in the playoffs as a result of their seventh-place Bundesliga performance from the previous year. They've made the knockout rounds in each of the last four UEFA competitions they've qualified for.
Toppmöller indicated he might see changing a few things in his starting lineup.
On Thursday, "it's possible that one or two new players will join the team," he stated.
