The second-to-last match of Serie A's 30th round features Lecce facing off against Roma at Stadio Via del Mare on Monday.

Before the break, Lecce secured their first away win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Salernitana, while Roma continued their journey post-Jose Mourinho era with a win against struggling Sassuolo two weeks ago.

Lecce hadn't clinched an away win all season but managed to do so against a struggling Salernitana side, securing a 1-0 win in Luca Gotti's debut match in charge, taking over from Roberto D'Aversa.

However, facing Roma presents a tougher challenge for Lecce, who have only beaten the Rome-based club twice in 35 Serie A encounters, suffering 24 losses and playing out nine draws.

The odds seem stacked against Lecce for Monday's match, especially considering their recent home form, where they lost three of their last five matches, failing to score in defeats against Juventus (3-0), Inter Milan (4-0), and relegation-threatened Hellas Verona (1-0).

Despite currently sitting in 13th place, Lecce are not yet safe from relegation, as the bottom half of the table remains tightly packed, with just three points separating them from 18th-placed Frosinone, who secured a 1-1 draw against Genoa on Saturday.

It would hardly be unexpected to witness Roma suffer their 14th league defeat of the 2023-24 season against Daniele De Rossi's squad. Since taking over from Mourinho in January, De Rossi's team has amassed 22 points, showcasing a significant improvement.

In this period, only the league champions-elect Inter have gathered more points (25), emphasizing Roma's resurgence under new management.

Under Mourinho's guidance, Roma consistently hovered around Champions League qualification based solely on points. However, De Rossi has instilled a belief within the team that they are on course to reclaim a spot in Europe's elite club competition after a five-year absence, despite currently occupying fifth place.

Securing fifth position may be adequate to secure participation in the next season's Champions League, depending on how other Italian teams perform in European competitions during the 2023-24 campaign.

Following Atalanta BC's impressive 3-0 victory against Napoli, Roma will be eager to defeat Lecce and reclaim their four-point advantage over Atalanta in the standings.
