Atletico Madrid are chasing a third consecutive La Liga win as they head to face struggling Las Palmas in an away clash on Sunday evening.

Under Diego Simeone, Atletico sit third in the La Liga standings, trailing leaders Barcelona by seven points. Meanwhile, Las Palmas are fighting for survival, languishing in 18th place, just one point shy of Alaves in 17th.

Las Palmas have managed seven victories, eight draws, and 16 losses in their 31 league games this season, accumulating 29 points. That leaves them in the relegation zone, one point behind Alaves.

The Canary Islanders, nicknamed Pio Pio, come into this game buoyed by a 3-1 triumph over Getafe—their first win since before the mid-season break. They’ve lost only once in their last four La Liga outings, showing signs of a revival.

Diego Martinez’s squad now face a daunting double-header against Atletico and Athletic Bilbao. Securing points from either match would significantly boost their chances of staying in the top flight.

Las Palmas have firepower up front, with Fabio Silva and Sandro Ramirez combining for 18 league goals this campaign. Oli McBurnie has also found the net in back-to-back matches against Real Sociedad and Getafe.

Interestingly, Las Palmas upset Atletico 2-1 in this fixture last season, though they fell 2-0 in the reverse meeting in Madrid earlier this term.

Atletico, meanwhile, are gaining momentum after back-to-back victories over Sevilla and Real Valladolid. Those wins followed a tough six-game winless streak across all competitions, which dashed their trophy hopes for the season.

Simeone’s men were ousted from the Copa del Rey by Barcelona in the semi-finals in early April and suffered a heartbreaking Champions League exit on penalties to rivals Real Madrid last month.

Their ambitions of winning La Liga were severely damaged by consecutive losses to Getafe and Barcelona. With seven games remaining, Atletico is presently in third place in the league, seven points behind leaders Barcelona.

However, with 12 points more than fifth-place Villarreal, the Red and Whites are comfortably in the top four, and this season's minimum goal was to qualify for the Champions League.

During the 2024–25 season, Atletico has amassed 26 points from their 15 away league games. They will be playing a Las Palmas team that has only amassed 14 points from their 15 home league games this year.
