With a potential treble in their sights, Inter’s current form—12 games unbeaten across all competitions—makes them a formidable force. Their 3-1 victory over Cagliari in Serie A at the weekend further showcased their dominance.

To advance to the semi-finals, Inter simply need to extend their unbeaten streak in midweek, ahead of their Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against AC Milan next Wednesday.

Historically, Inter have advanced in 21 of their 23 Champions League ties after winning the first leg, though last season’s exit to Atletico Madrid in the round of 16, despite a strong first-leg showing, serves as a cautionary tale.

Bayern, meanwhile, have struggled to overturn first-leg deficits, winning only one of their last eight Champions League ties in such scenarios. However, that lone success came against Italian side Lazio in last season’s round of 16, offering them a faint glimmer of hope.

Since 2015 Bayern have won all four away matches against Inter with their Champions League matches included and finished without letting any goals.

If Vincent Kompany fails to guide Bayern Munich to another victory this will increase the intensity of his duties as Bavarian manager.
