On Wednesday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Hornets will square off at the Spectrum Center for the second time in the previous three nights.

With a 17-54 record and a 13th-place standing in the East, the Hornets are now considering the end of the season. With a half-game advantage over the fourth-place Knicks thanks to their 44-28 record, the Cavaliers will be looking to maintain their third-place status.

On Monday night, the two clubs squared off at home, where Cleveland prevailed 115-92 against the Hornets, providing much-needed relief. The Cavs' three-game losing run came to a stop with the win, which also maintained their third-place status in the Eastern Conference.

We have grown used to this team's dominating defensive play, which the Cavaliers delivered in Monday's game. They allow just 109.3 points per game, which is the fifth-best in the NBA, and are fourth in terms of adjusted defensive rating (111.6).

The Cavaliers have had a difficult month as they have only had an 8-9 record over the last 30 days. But against this struggling team, they have a fantastic chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since February 27th.

There's no denying that Charlotte is a complete mess right now. This club has failed to score more over 100 points in five straight games, which is nearly unheard of in the modern NBA, as seen by their most recent loss, where they scored just 92 points. The Hornets have now dropped their past five games and have only won two of their previous ten games. Despite not having the poorest record, the hosts are dead last in adjusted net rating (-10.8) and, given their current play, can easily be considered the worst team in the league.

In Monday's game against Charlotte, Cleveland shot 53.5% from the field and 41.5% from three, while the Hornets were limited to 42.5% from the field and 32.1% from beyond the arc.
With a 21-14 record (.600 win percentage), the Cavaliers are among the NBA's greatest road teams, while Charlotte has a 9-24 record (.273 win percentage) at home.

With a 27-44 (38%), record against the spread, the Hornets are second poorest in the league.
The hosts, who rank 30th at -10.8, are the only team to rank higher than a -10 rating in the previous ten years. The visitors, at +3.2, are ranked seventh in adjusted net rating.
Of their previous 16 games, Charlotte has only scored 100 points or more in three of them.

Prior to this game, the Cavaliers were -12 point favorites; they are now -10 as the visiting team. Even with home court, we don't think Charlotte is performing well enough right now to merit a line adjustment in their favor. When Charlotte's scoring woes become an issue, the club you want to play against is Cleveland. Given their inconsistent performance over the previous 30 days, the Cavaliers will understand the significance of winning games like these.
