Hibernian and Rangers are set to meet at Easter Road on Saturday afternoon in the final fixture of the 2024–25 Scottish Premiership season.

The outcome won't affect league positions, with Hibernian having secured third place and Rangers guaranteed to finish second.

Since earning promotion back to the Premiership in 2016–17 by winning the Championship, Hibs have often pushed for European qualification but had fallen short over the past three years. This season, however, David Gray’s team has secured a Europa League berth with their third-place finish—sitting four points ahead of Aberdeen and 17 behind Rangers.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround for Hibs, who found themselves bottom of the table after 16 matches with just two wins. A 3-0 loss to Celtic marked a low point, but that defeat sparked a revival. Gray’s side went on a 17-game unbeaten run that propelled them into third place before the league split. Despite a modest post-split record (one win, one draw, two losses), they managed to hold onto that spot.

Hibs now aim to finish on a positive note and claim consecutive victories over Rangers for the first time since a trio of wins between 2016 and 2017.

Rangers, meanwhile, wrap up a disappointing campaign, despite finishing second. Under Philippe Clement, they endured their worst start to a Premiership season since their top-flight return in 2016–17, quickly losing ground to Celtic in the title race.

Though they showed brief improvement, inconsistent performances and a shock 1-0 Scottish Cup loss to Queen's Park led to Clement's dismissal. Club legend Barry Ferguson stepped in as interim manager with hopes of steadying the ship and staking a claim for the permanent job.

Ferguson began strongly, winning four of his first six matches, but a six-game winless streak followed. However, Rangers have recently bounced back with consecutive victories, including a 3-1 win in their final home game, making it seven points from their last three at Ibrox.

With Ferguson potentially managing the club for the last time, the former midfielder—who made 431 appearances for Rangers—will be eager to finish on a high in Edinburgh.
