Girona will host European-chasing Villarreal at Estadi Montilivi on Tuesday evening in an attempt to maintain their second-place standing in La Liga.

The host team is now in second place, two points ahead of Barcelona in third place, while Villarreal is in eighth place, four points behind Real Betis in seventh.

Girona has enjoyed an incredible season, finishing second in the standings with a record of 23 victories, 6 draws, and 6 losses from their 35 league games.

With Xavi's team playing Real Sociedad on Monday night, the situation may have changed before Girona's Tuesday kickoff. Michel's team is now two points clear of third-placed Barcelona.

Villarreal had defeated Girona 2-1 in their last meeting between the two clubs earlier in the season, although they have won three of their past four league games against the team.
