Four-time African champions Ghana are set to resume their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a clash against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium this Friday.

While Ghana has had a steady run in the qualifiers, accumulating seven points from four matches to sit third in Group I, Chad finds itself at the bottom of the standings. The Black Stars are level on points with second-placed Chad but trail on goal difference in the playoff race.

Ghana's recent form has been less than ideal. They failed to qualify for the 2025 African Nations Championship after suffering a 3-1 aggregate defeat to West African rivals Nigeria in their final game of 2024. Despite holding Nigeria to a goalless draw in Accra on December 22, the Black Stars were overwhelmed in the return leg, conceding three goals within the first 25 minutes, courtesy of Ismaila Sodiq, Nduka Junior, and Isaac Savior. A late strike from Stephen Amankona in the 73rd minute served only as a consolation.

This disappointing result followed a lackluster 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, where Ghana failed to win any of their six games in Group F. They finished at the bottom of the table with just three points from a possible 18, drawing three and losing three.

Despite an eight-match winless streak across all competitions, Otto Addo's side has fared better in World Cup qualifying, securing victories against Madagascar, Mali, and Central African Republic. Their only setback came in November 2023, when a goal from Myziane Maolida handed Comoros a 1-0 win at Stade de Moroni.

Chad, meanwhile, heads into this fixture desperately searching for their first points in the qualifiers. They have endured a dismal campaign so far, losing all four of their matches. After suffering consecutive defeats against Mali and Madagascar in November 2023, Les Sao fell 1-0 to Central African Republic in June 2024 before a 2-0 loss to Comoros at Stade Municipal Oujda.

Now, both teams will be looking to turn their fortunes around as they meet in a crucial Group I showdown.
