Ghana will play Angola on Thursday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in an attempt to win the first game of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

In their match during the last AFCON qualifying round, these two teams met, with the Black Stars winning 1-0 at home and drawing 1-1 in the away leg.

Even though Otto Addo's first game back as Ghana's head coach ended in defeat against Nigeria, his second spell has shown promise, with two victories and a draw in four games.

Recent performances by Ghana include two thrilling victories in 2026 World Cup qualifying—a 2-1 triumph over Mali and a 4-3 victory over the Central African Republic.

In the second game, Louis Mafouta scored a hat-trick for the Central African Republic, Jordan Ayew answered with a hat-trick of his own for Ghana, and Abdul Fatawu also found the scorebook.

Chris Hughton was fired as a result of Ghana's poor group-stage loss at the most recent AFCON; however, the Black Stars have since turned things around and are aiming to win three straight games in all competitions for the first time since July–August 2022.

In their four prior encounters, the hosts have won two, drawn two, and are still undefeated against the guests.

Angola was victorious in the COSAFA Cup for the fourth time in July, and they come into this match on a high.

Pedro Goncalves's team won all five games in the tournament, and Victor Pedro Nanque scored a brace as they thrashed Namibia 5-0 in the championship match.

The Palancas Negras, who lost to Nigeria in the quarterfinals of the previous edition, are looking for their tenth AFCON appearance.

Angola's AFCON qualification record was uneven, consisting of two victories, three draws, and one loss. They will be looking to improve in a group that also contains Sudan and Niger.
