Feyenoord vs Waalwijk

RKC Waalwijk will have to make their way to Rotterdam in midweek when they have to take on Feyenoord in their battle to retain their Eredivisie status.

Feyenoord, in contrast, will be doing everything to cement their Champions League qualifying place, after sliding further away from leaders PSV after losing last weekend.

Last weekend, we saw arguably the game of the season as Feyenoord and PSV faced-off in an entertaining top three encounter from Stadion Feijenoord – a game that had a bit of everything, from end to end football and stunning goals to late drama and heart break.

Unfortunately, the heartbreak was for De Trots van Zuid as their hopes of coming second were shattered by late dramatic 3-2 win of the defending champions closed them to a point from leaders Ajax.

The defeat put a stop to their six game winning streak into the top flight and the first time the team were defeated since the beginning of February on their campaign to de Godenzonen.

However, Feyenoord were given a slice of luck at the weekend, as Utrecht also lost, meaning that Robin van Persie’s side could extend their lead over the Cupfighters to three points with only two games left to play.

That outcome also established Van Persie’s first league loss since joining the club, but it was their fourth consecutive home outing where they were bagging in two or more goals, and are huge favourites to get their win streak resumed in this game.

While Feyenoord fight to get into the European envelopment, RKC Waalwijk’s only remaining focus in the rest of the campaign is revolved on putting their Eredivisie foot out of the play-out zone and preserving another stay at the top tier for another year.
