Faroe Islands vs Gibraltar

On Monday evening, Faroe Islands and Gibraltar, both still pointless in Group L of UEFA 2026 World Cup qualifying, will go head-to-head.

The home side has lost both of their group matches, managing one goal while letting in three. Meanwhile, Gibraltar have dropped all three of their games, also scoring once but conceding a hefty 14 goals.

Faroe Islands have never reached the finals of either the FIFA World Cup or UEFA European Championship, and their prospects look slim for this campaign. Sitting fourth in Group L, they’ve fallen to Czech Republic (2-1) and Montenegro (1-0), leaving them six points off the top two spots.

Since taking over in October 2024, coach Eydun Klakstein is eager for his team to finally earn points against a Gibraltar side that’s also winless after three matches. Despite a run of four straight losses, Faroe Islands can take heart from their past meetings with Gibraltar, securing a 4-1 victory and a 0-0 draw in their last two clashes.

Gibraltar, still chasing their first appearance at a World Cup or European Championship, are also yet to earn a single point in any qualifying campaign. Accepted as a UEFA member in 2013 and a FIFA member in 2016, they’ve lost all 49 group-stage matches across qualifying for Euro 2016, 2020, 2024, and the 2018, 2022, and 2026 World Cups, while conceding a massive 232 goals.

Coach Scott Wiseman is desperate to achieve a historic draw or better against fellow bottom-dwellers Faroe Islands, but with six games without a victory, confidence is in short supply.
