In a bid to secure a spot in the Copa del Rey's last 16, Espanyol and Getafe, both eyeing advancement, will clash at Stage Front Stadium this Saturday.

Espanyol has been on a streak of draws in their recent league games, contrasting Getafe's dip in form after a string of wins.

Espanyol's 2023 ended with a thrilling draw against Burgos in La Liga 2, where Sergi Gomez, Javi Puado, and former Barcelona player Martin Braithwaite scored crucial goals in a six-goal showdown at Stage Front Stadium on December 19.

The hosts have tied their last three league matches, with their latest win occurring in the Copa del Rey against Real Valladolid on December 5. In that game, Jofre Carreras's impressive brace and Puado's 96th-minute goal secured a 3-1 victory.

Luis Ramis's team currently holds fifth place in La Liga 2, having gathered 34 points from 21 league matches, trailing Racing Club de Ferrol by only three points in the standings.

Espanyol, apart from playoff contenders Racing Santander, has scored the most goals in the second tier this season. Players like Puado, Braithwaite, and Pere Milla have combined for 23 league goals so far.

Getafe's recent unbeaten streak ended abruptly at Estadio Civitas Metropolitano as Rayo Vallecano secured a 2-0 victory on Tuesday night. Sergio Camello scored both goals just before halftime, marking his first goals of the La Liga season.

Pepe Bordalas's team faced an uphill battle in the final stages of the match after falling behind by two goals. The situation worsened as Mason Greenwood, Damian Suarez, and Juanmi Latasa were sent off, leaving Getafe with only eight players for the last 20 minutes.

Despite consistently finishing 15th in La Liga in recent years, Getafe is currently positioned ninth, showing promise for a better outcome this season. They sit comfortably 11 points clear of 18th-placed Cadiz and are just six points away from sixth-placed Real Sociedad, who are set to clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League next month.

Getafe has notably established Estadio Coliseum as a formidable stronghold this season, amassing 18 points from nine home matches. However, their upcoming opponents on Saturday have struggled away from home, managing only one win in their 10 league away games since the season commenced.

Espanyol might not have Nico Ribaudo available for Saturday's game as the 22-year-old is dealing with a shoulder injury sustained in November.

Victor Ruiz, the center-back, has played only two league matches this season due to ongoing hamstring problems, casting doubt on his participation in the upcoming Copa del Rey clash.

Despite being a consistent presence in Espanyol's defense this season, Leandro Cabrera might be absent on Saturday due to physical discomfort.

Getafe's Mauro Arambarri will definitely miss the game, expected to remain sidelined for the rest of the season due to a cruciate ligament injury.

With Greenwood, Latasa, and Suarez suspended for this match, players like Jose Angel Carmona and Turkey's Enes Unal will be vying for starting positions.
