For a spot in the 2023 Women's World Cup semifinals, England Women and Colombia Women will square off on Saturday.

The South Americans are making their debut appearance at this stage while the Lionesses have advanced to the quarterfinals in each of their six Women's World Cup outings.

Even without the services of Leah Williamson, Beth Mead, and Fran Kirby, who were injured, England entered the Women's World Cup as one of the contenders after winning the European Championships the previous year.

Even though England won their first two games by scores of 1-0 over Haiti and Denmark, it was clear that they needed to get better if they wanted to contend for the championship.

In their last group match against China, they put on a better performance, scoring six goals and only giving one away on a penalty.

They were unable to put up another impressive showing against Nigeria in the round of 16, when they occasionally had to rely on luck and manage to get through extra time with just 10 players after Lauren James was sent off in the 87th minute for a stamp on Michelle Alozie of Nigeria.

The Lionesses controlled their composure from the penalty spot to win the shootout and progress to the quarterfinals, just like they did in April's Finalissima victory over Brazil.

At the Women's World Cup, they will now try to go to the semifinals for the third time in a row.

Colombia is still seeking to make more history after making it to the Women's World Cup quarterfinals for the first time, and their victory in Australia and New Zealand has emerged as one of the stories of the competition.

The South Americans managed to defeat Germany in an incredible 2-1 victory after starting their tournament with a 2-0 victory over South Korea, effectively securing their place in the round of 16.

Despite losing to Morocco by a score of 1-0 to end the group round, Nelson Abadia's team was upbeat going into their match against Jamaica on Tuesday.

Due to Catalina Usme's 51st-minute winner, Colombia emerged victorious in their cagey last-16 encounter.

As they strive to become the first South American country to do so since 2007 in the Women's World Cup, Colombia is now carrying the dreams of an entire continent.
