Denmark will host a comparatively strong Faroe Islands team at Brondby Stadion on Tuesday night in an international friendly with the goal of securing their first victory of 2024.

In their first game of the international window, the Red and Whites and Switzerland drew goallessly, while Landslioio defeated Liechtenstein handily.

After ending a respectable 2023 with a disappointing 2-0 loss to Northern Ireland, Denmark began the new year at Parken with a goalless draw against Switzerland on Saturday night. Yvon Mvogo, Kasper Schmeichel, and Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer all failed to find the back of the net.

Following their run to the belated Euro 2020 semi-finals, where they were cruelly eliminated in extra time against England under Gareth Southgate, the Red and Whites will be the underdogs to advance further this summer and win their second-ever European Championship after winning the competition in Sweden in 1992.

In 2023, Kasper Hjulmand's team only lost twice as they finished first in their Euro qualifying group. They were four points ahead of third-place Finland, who saw their hopes of qualifying eliminated by Rob Page's Wales in the playoff on Thursday night, and ahead of Slovenia on a head-to-head basis.

With Southgate's Three Lions, Slovenia, and Aleksandr Mitrovic's Serbia—a team Denmark will play in Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena on the last day of that section—the Red and Whites have an intimidating set of opponents at Euro 2024.

The Faroe Islands kicked off 2024 with a bang, defeating Liechtenstein 4–0 thanks to goals from Adrian Justinussen, Arnbjorn Svensson, and Paetur Petersen in the first and second halves, respectively. The performance was outstanding.

Fans of Landslioio can understandably be a little astonished right now, especially given their terrible record in the year 2023. The team last won an international match back in September 2022 against Euro 2020 dark horses Turkey.

The Faroe Islands were undoubtedly categorized as section whipping boys in a competitive Euro 2024 qualifying group that included Albania, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Moldova. They lost six of their eight games in Group E, drew two, and scored two goals.

It's interesting to note that all of Hakan Ericson's goal scorers in the squad's most recent victory over Liechtenstein had not scored a goal in any of their prior national team outings. Perhaps this turn of events will result in a successful 2024 for the group.
