Reigning Serie A winners Inter Milan will travel to nearby Como in an attempt to overtake championship rivals Napoli, one point from the top spot ahead of a thrilling Friday night finale.

As Italy's top-flight season draws to a close, the Scudetto may still go either way or possibly be determined by a playoff after both teams made mistakes last week.

'Super Sunday' in Serie A was a huge success. Last weekend, when Inter and Napoli began their fierce battle for the championship, nine games were played simultaneously, and there was no shortage of drama or controversy.

The defending champions missed a golden opportunity to seize the Serie A lead with one match left, settling for a dramatic 2-2 draw against Lazio at San Siro after a rollercoaster of events.

Yann Bisseck gave Inter the lead just before the break, only for Pedro to equalize for Lazio. Denzel Dumfries then appeared to secure a vital edge over Napoli—who were held to a goalless draw in Parma—by nodding in a header at the far post. However, Inter’s joy was short-lived. A late VAR review penalized Bisseck for handball, and 38-year-old substitute Pedro calmly slotted home the resulting penalty to level the score.

In the dying moments, Marko Arnautovic squandered a chance to snatch the win, leaving Inter trailing Napoli by a single point as the season nears its climax.

The title race now hinges on Friday’s final fixtures. Inter face a tricky trip to Lombardy neighbors Como, while Napoli host Cagliari. If Napoli lose and Inter draw, both teams would finish on 79 points, setting up a high-stakes playoff next Monday. Inter’s campaign will then culminate against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final eight days later.

Despite a strong run of eight consecutive away victories earlier, including seven shutouts, Inter’s form on the road has dipped, with only two wins in their last eight away games. Stadio Sinigaglia, therefore, poses a challenge, though Inter’s record against Como offers hope—they’ve won their last eight league meetings, including a 2-0 victory at San Siro in December.

Meanwhile, Como, despite a 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona last week, remain buoyant. Their remarkable form since April has secured a surprising top-10 finish with 49 points, well ahead of Torino and Udinese. This marks a strong return to Serie A after a 21-year absence, with the potential to match or exceed Verona’s 50-point haul as a promoted side in 2014.

Under Cesc Fabregas’ astute leadership and with ambitious owners fueling their transfer activity, Como have thrived. Their recent home form—three straight wins while conceding just once—suggests they could pose a real threat to Inter’s title ambitions as they look to cement their top-flight status for years to come.
