Hoping to secure a top-five finish, Chelsea will host relegation-threatened Ipswich Town at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this Sunday afternoon.

Fresh off a convincing victory in the Conference League on Thursday, the Blues have had less preparation time than Ipswich, who’ve benefited from a full week of training since their last domestic match.

As strong contenders for the Premier League title this season, Chelsea took a significant step toward Conference League success with a commanding 3-0 win over Legia Warsaw in Poland on Thursday. Despite a scoreless first half, the Blues dominated after the break, with Tyrique George opening the scoring and Noni Madueke netting twice, setting them up well for the return leg at home next week.

Turning their attention to the Premier League, Chelsea are firmly in the hunt for a Champions League spot after a couple of seasons outside Europe’s elite competition. There’s still work to do with seven games left, but the Blues are currently fourth, tied on points with fifth-placed Newcastle United and just one point ahead of reigning champions Manchester City in sixth.

Cole Palmer continues to shine as Chelsea’s attacking star, scoring 14 goals in 30 Premier League games this season and adding seven assists, proving he’s far more than a flash in the pan.

Ipswich Town, back in the Premier League for the first time in 20 years, seem destined for a swift return to the Championship, particularly after a painful loss to a fellow relegation battler last weekend. Liam Delap gave the Tractor Boys hope with an early goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Wolves fought back with strikes from Pablo Sarabia and Jorgen Strand Larsen to claim the win.

Following their frustrating loss to Wolves at Portman Road, Kieran McKenna’s side are on the brink of sealing their place as a Championship team next season. With just four wins all campaign, Ipswich sit a staggering 12 points behind safety in the Premier League, trailing Vitor Pereira’s side at the bottom of the survival zone.

Interestingly, the Tractor Boys have performed better away from home this season, securing three of their four league victories on the road—including an impressive 2-1 win over European hopefuls Bournemouth in early April.

Despite their occasional resilience, Ipswich remain heavy underdogs as they prepare for Sunday’s trip to Stamford Bridge. Their last visit to Chelsea ended in disaster—a humiliating 7-0 FA Cup defeat back in January 2011—and they’ll be hoping for a much-improved performance this time around.
