Cameroon and Uganda are set to clash in an international friendly at Marrakech Stadium on Friday evening, gearing up for the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September.

Both teams have been in solid form heading into this match, with their three previous meetings all ending in draws, making for closely fought battles.

Cameroon, reuniting for the first time in over two months, earned four points in their March CAF World Cup qualifiers, drawing 0-0 with Eswatini on March 25 and defeating Libya 3-1 a week later. Vincent Aboubakar scored twice in the Libya win, complemented by a goal from Bryan Mbeumo, marking Cameroon’s third victory in six WCQ matches.

The Indomitable Lions have been in strong form, with seven wins, four draws, and just one loss in their last 12 matches across all competitions since their Africa Cup of Nations exit early last year. However, coach Marc Brys has faced challenges in preparation, as only 17 players attended the team’s first training session in Marrakech, with key players like Patrick Soko, Ignatius Ganago, and Boris Enow missing.

The last encounter between Cameroon and Uganda, an international friendly in January 2023, ended 1-1, with Kemajou Dibami and Moses Ndhondhi scoring for their respective teams.

Uganda, meanwhile, had mixed fortunes in their March World Cup qualifiers, falling 3-1 to Mozambique away before clinching a 1-0 home win against Guinea. The Cranes have won seven of their last 10 matches across all competitions (one draw, two losses), a run that includes securing qualification for this year’s AFCON, where they finished second in their group, one point behind South Africa.

In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Uganda remain in contention but trail group leaders Algeria by six points with four games left, sitting three points behind second-placed Mozambique, which may leave them aiming for a second-round qualifying spot. For this friendly, Uganda will be without head coach Paul Put due to illness, with assistant coach Sam Ssimbwa stepping in to lead the team.
