Porto will travel to Estadio do Bessa Seculo XXI on Friday night for the Primeira Liga's late kickoff against their local rivals Boavista.

With 16 points from 15 top-tier games, the hosts will enter this game in 13th position in the league standings, while the visitors, with 34 points, are in third place.

2023 was a story of two halves for Boavista, who started the season strong, finishing in the top seven league slots after four victories and a draw in their first five league games.

But since the international break in October, they have lost seven of their last ten league games and drawn three, which has resulted in a disastrous turn of events for them.

With just four points separating them from Rio Ave, who now hold the relegation playoff berth, the Panthers are dangerously near to the drop zone after their most recent game resulted in a 1-0 loss to Gil Vicente, who is in 14th place.

Former manager Petit left the team as a result of their miserable run of defeats over the past three months. Now, interim coach Ricardo Paiva must attempt to turn things around for the team, or else they risk being immediately drawn into the relegation scrap.

Since Benfica's match is only set for Saturday night, Porto will be eager to start the New Year strong. A victory in this game will move them up to second place in the league standings overnight.

With only 11 goals conceded so far this season, Sergio Conceicao's team has 11 victories, 1 tie, 3 losses, and the second-best defensive record out of 15 league games played.

Just before Christmas, the Dragons' two-point loss against The Lions at Estadio Jose Alvalade caused the distance between them and league leaders Sporting to grow to three points.

But that was the only loss they had given up in their previous five league games, and it was only their second away setback of the season, having lost to reigning champions Benfica back in September.

However, all the signs point to the Dragons winning this game because they have won the last seven times they have played here and have a 43-5 advantage in points scored against this opponent in their winning streak.
