At Tupras Stadyumu on Friday night, Besiktas will be trying to hang onto fourth place in the Turkish Super Lig when they host Ankaragucu.

With just six games remaining, the hosts' lead over the teams behind them has dissolved and they have lost their previous five games.

After last time out, Besiktas and Samsunspor drew 1-1, failing to snap their losing streak. Semih Kilicsoy gave the Black Eagles the lead in the eighteenth minute, but they were only able to secure a point after giving up an equalizer in the 68th.

With 48 points, Fernando Santos' club is still in fourth position, but the difference between them and the teams behind them is no longer present. They are presently just two points clear of sixth-place Istanbul Basaksehir and seventh-place Kasimpasa, and level on points with fifth-place Rizespor, ahead only on goal differential. They risk losing their berth in the Europa Conference League if they make any more mistakes.

The Black Eagles last triumphed over Konyaspor in the Turkish Cup quarterfinal. They haven't won a competitive match in more than a month.

The next matchup is a matchup with Ankaragucu, the first of two games that will take place there. Four days after their league match, both teams will square off in the first leg of their Turkish Cup semifinal match.

This match has been dominated by Besiktas, particularly at home, where they have won 55 times and drawn 8 times in 65 games. They have only lost twice. In the sixteen previous occasions they have hosted this match, they are undefeated, having won fifteen and drawn just one.

Santos needs to figure out how to bring his squad back to winning games, especially with three clubs potentially chasing them. In their previous two league games, the Black Eagles have struggled to see out victory as they have seized the lead but were unable to extend or maintain it.

The last time out, Ankaragucu defeated Gaziantep 3-1 after coming back from a goal down, thanks to goals from Ali Sowe and Efkan Bekiroglu.

With 37 points from 32 games, Emre Belozoglu's team has risen to 13th place in the rankings, six points above the relegation zone.

MKE will go to Besiktas on Friday in an attempt to extend their winning streak to four games. As the season draws to a close, victories over Basaksehir and Gaziantep, along with a draw with Antalyaspor, have put them in a strong position to avoid relegation.

Given the state of play for both teams coming into this match, Ankaragucu will be more confident of getting a point against Besiktas after holding them to a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

But there will also be considerable attention paid to the cup tie that takes place in four days. Last year, the two teams faced off in both the league and the cup. Ankaragucu won the cup on penalties while losing both league games.
