Bayern Munich kicks off their 2024 campaign as they travel to St. Jakob-Park to engage in a mid-season friendly against Swiss side FC Basel this Saturday.

Having performed impressively in the first half of the season, Thomas Tuchel's squad currently holds the second position in the Bundesliga standings, although they have a game in hand.

FC Basel secured a 1-0 victory over Luzern in their last match of the year at the Swissporarena, concluding the first half of the season on a positive note. Prior to that, Fabio Celestini's team experienced a setback on December 9, suffering a 1-0 defeat against Grasshopper Zurich, which ended their three-game unbeaten streak.

Despite their recent success, Basel finds themselves just above the bottom in the Swiss Super League table, positioned one spot and seven points ahead of the last-placed Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy.

Bayern completed their 2023 fixtures with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena. Tuchel’s team has secured three consecutive victories, including a 1-0 win against Manchester United in the Champions League, where they topped Group A.

Currently holding 38 points from 15 matches, Bayern sits second in the Bundesliga, trailing four points behind Bayer Leverkusen.

In their history, Bayern Munich has been dominant against FC Basel, winning four of the last seven encounters. Basel's lone victory in this stretch dates back to February 2012, a 1-0 win in their Champions League clash. Bayern is currently on a three-game winning streak and has been unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches, securing seven wins and a draw since early November.

Basel has struggled at home, winning only two of their last eight games while suffering four losses and managing two draws since August. Despite a 5-1 defeat at Frankfurt on December 9, Tuchel's side has triumphed in all but one of their last five away matches across all competitions.

Eager to reclaim the top spot in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich aims to kickstart the next year on a winning note. Although Tuchel might rest some key players this weekend, the prediction favors the German giants to secure a victory at the St. Jakob-Park.
