Atalanta BC will welcome Serie A's top-ranked team, Roma, in Bergamo on Monday, bringing together two teams fighting for a valuable top-four finish.

Their Roman adversaries have risen up the ranks and are determined to qualify for the Champions League, while the hosts are in third place and control their own fate.

Atalanta easily won all of the points from their match against rock-bottom Monza last week, but they are still in some risk of losing out on a top-four spot at the end of a difficult campaign.

Atalanta have all but secured a top-three finish in Serie A after a commanding 4-0 victory, which saw Charles De Ketelaere finally break his goal drought. Ademola Lookman, likely to depart Bergamo this summer, was also on the scoresheet as La Dea extended their lead over Juventus to five points with just three games remaining.

Despite a mid-season slump ending their Scudetto hopes, Atalanta have been relentless in attack, netting 99 goals across all competitions—just one shy of reaching the 100-goal milestone for only the fifth time in their history, all achieved in the past six years.

This golden era under Gian Piero Gasperini—who guided them to Europa League glory last season—could be nearing its end, with the veteran manager hinting at a possible departure. A summer of change may loom, but first, Atalanta must navigate their final fixtures: home clashes against Roma and Parma, sandwiched around a trip to Genoa.

However, their recent home form has been shaky—failing to beat Cagliari and Venezia in Bergamo, where they’ve taken just eight points from their last nine league games. This could give Roma hope of an upset, especially after December’s 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture. The Giallorossi have also lost four of their last five away meetings with Atalanta.

Roma’s Resurgence Under Ranieri

While Atalanta have stumbled in 2025, Roma have been in scintillating form, going 16 games unbeaten in the second half of the season to surge into the top-four race. Their latest win, a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fiorentina, saw Artem Dovbyk on target before goalkeeper Mile Svilar made several crucial saves.

Svilar has been instrumental in Roma’s revival, boasting a 77.5% save rate and 15 clean sheets in Serie A this season—the most by a Roma keeper since Alisson Becker’s 17 in 2017-18. With his composure at the back, Roma have become Europe’s most efficient 1-0 specialists, with nine such wins—eight under interim boss Claudio Ranieri.

Since January, no team in Italy has collected more points (43), conceded fewer goals (8), or kept more clean sheets (10) than Roma. Ranieri, in his third and final stint at his boyhood club, has steadied the ship and propelled them up the table. Now, he’ll aim to cap off his tenure by securing European football for next season.
