With the goal of rising to the top two in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers’ Group F, El Salvador will move forward and play against Anguilla at the Raymond E. Guishard Technical Centre on Saturday.

The hosts want to avoid another defeat this weekend, whereas Los Cuscatlecos are hoping to keep up their good record in the group with a third straight unbeaten match.

So far during qualification, the team from Anguilla have endured a lot of defeats, and a string of four consecutive losses before this match makes them worry about the outcome.

On Wednesday, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines trounced the weekend’s hosts 6-0, making it three games in a row in which the hosts have given up goals without scoring one.

Jeffrey’s team has not gained a single point this season after another defeat this round, which is expected since they have lost in six of their seven recent games.

Still, Anguilla can be glad that they play better at home and that in the past year, they have secured two home wins, one draw and two losses.

Should Saturday’s team manage to win, they could join Vincy Heat on points, but because of their goal difference, it would be unrealistic for them to end up in fourth place.

El Salvador’s manager Hermes Dario Gomez was pictured as Panama’s coach on June 23, 2018.

Hernán Darío Gómez’s El Salvador side heads into this weekend’s clash in strong form, having lost just twice in their last 10 matches. A win here could seriously boost their qualification hopes.

To shake off the rust before returning to competitive action, Los Cuscatlecos faced Guatemala in a June 1 friendly. Though it ended 1-1, Gómez will have been encouraged by his team’s fighting spirit—especially after youngster Brandon Ramírez snatched a dramatic 89th-minute equalizer.

So far in Group F, El Salvador remains unbeaten. After a gritty 0-0 draw with Puerto Rico and a convincing 3-1 win over Saint Vincent & the Grenadines last summer, they sit third on four points—level with second-placed Suriname.

Another victory this weekend would put them in a great position to advance. And their recent away form should give them confidence: five wins in their last six road games, with their only stumble being a 2-1 loss to MLS side Houston Dynamo in March.

If they extend their unbeaten group streak with three points, El Salvador could jump to seven—potentially climbing to second. However, their weaker goal difference compared to Suriname and Puerto Rico means topping the group might still be out of reach for now.
