AC Milan, who have not won any of their last five matches, will be aiming to reverse their fortunes as they host Genoa at San Siro on Sunday evening.

Despite still vying for the runners-up position in Serie A, AC Milan's recent form has raised concerns about ending the season on a disappointing note. On the other hand, Genoa remains determined to secure a top-half finish.

Following their defeat in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter Milan, which also saw Inter clinch the league title, AC Milan managed to salvage a point in their recent outing against Juventus, holding the third-placed team to a goalless draw in Turin.

While this result kept AC Milan five points ahead of their closest rivals for the second spot, it also prolonged their winless streak to almost a month.

Under the helm of head coach Stefano Pioli, AC Milan's current run without a win is one of the longest since his tenure began. Reports are circulating that Pioli's time as head coach may be coming to an end soon.

Milan doesn't have much left to play for after losing in the group stages of the Champions League, getting eliminated by Roma in the Europa League, and losing in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals.

They will attempt to avoid losing three in a row at home for the first time since 2014 as a strong Genoa team comes to San Siro looking to disrupt the status quo, even as rumors about their new manager continue to circulate.

Pioli's hopes of winning a second Scudetto were still very much alive when Christian Pulisic scored the game-winning goal for the Rossoneri in the October reverse fixture; today, however, he is undoubtedly playing for keeps.

Prior to Genoa's visit, Stefano Pioli has only previously experienced a longer winless skid at AC Milan than he is currently going through. The Rossoneri have lost their last five games in all competitions. For their supporters, it has been an agonizing time as they have watched their team lose to Inter Milan for the Scudetto and watched their club exit the UEFA Europa League.

They did atone for their mistakes in the hunt for second place by drawing with rivals Juventus and maintaining their five-point lead over the Bianconeri.

A victory over Genoa, who visit San Siro on Sunday, would put AC Milan in prime position to finish as runners-up and would be a significant step in that direction.

It has already been mentioned that the team intends to replace Pioli as manager, thus for that reason alone, the manager must finish in the second spot. The Rossoneri manager and the team, who may still be reeling from the disappointment of losing the Scudetto to their bitter rivals less than a week ago, therefore view the match against Genoa as vital.

Given that they stand to lose in the remaining games of the season, Genoa may choose to play with the handbrake off going into this match. Their best possible result is to finish in the top half.

Despite being five points behind Torino in tenth place, the latter is still in striking distance because Genoa still has a game in hand over the Turin team. They might be in a strong position to finish in the top half if they win at San Siro and have strong performances in their next three games.

Stefano Pioli once again has a long list of injured players who are not available for selection, despite a brief period of time when it seemed AC Milan's injury problems would be improving.

Davide Calabria will still be serving out his ban following his red card in the match against Inter Milan. Yunus Musah, who received a booking against Juventus in the previous game, will also be absent. Because Theo Hernandez is available, Pioli can rearrange his lineup and assign Alessandro Florenzi to the right back position.

The away team's morale will be boosted as they travel to San Siro fresh off a 3-0 victory against Cagliari. Only the second time this season, former AC Milan player and current Genoa manager Alberto Gilardino will try to lead his team to consecutive league victories.
