Wolverhampton Wanderers' goal on Saturday night is to defeat Liverpool at home in order to earn their first Premier League victory of the 2024–25 campaign. However, this is an unlikely task.

This season, the hosts have only managed one point out of a potential fifteen in the top division, while Arne Slot's team is coming into Molineux fresh off a flawless start to their EFL Cup championship defense.

For Saturday's guests, the silverware omens are quite positive. Liverpool, if Wednesday's actions are any indication. Slot's team utterly destroyed the Irons by the same score in this season's third round, following their 5-1 thumping of West Ham United en route to winning the EFL Cup the previous season.

Liverpool began the defence of their most recent major title with a bang with to goals from Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo. This completed a hugely productive few days in which Liverpool also smashed Bournemouth for three goals without answering in their most recent Premier League match.

Saturday evening's matchup sees the Premier League's stingiest defense face one of its weakest, as Wolves have conceded a worrying 14 goals – tied with Everton for the worst record in the league – following their recent disappointment at Villa Park.

Gary O'Neil's side held a lead for about 70 minutes, thanks to Matheus Cunha's early goal, but a late surge from Champions League hopefuls saw Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa, and Jhon Duran snatch victory in a dramatic comeback in the West Midlands clash.

September has been a forgettable month for Wolves fans. Alongside their Premier League struggles, they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Brighton & Hove Albion and beaten by Newcastle United in the league, leaving them just above last-placed Everton.

Scoring goals isn’t Wolves' primary issue, as they've found the net in each of their last six games. However, their inability to keep clean sheets is a pressing concern, with their current streak of 17 Premier League games without one – dating back to February’s win over Sheffield United – being the longest active run in the league.

Adding to their woes, Wolves could make unwanted history by becoming the first Premier League team to lose three consecutive matches in which they led at halftime. Additionally, they have lost their last three encounters with Liverpool, including a 2-0 defeat at Anfield during Klopp’s farewell in May.

Luis Diaz scored twice against the Bees, maintaining his excellent form following a summer of nonstop transfer rumors. Darwin Nunez then added a lovely curling shot to the scoreboard, leaving Slot with enough to consider in the last third of the game.

The Reds defeated AC Milan 3-1 in their Champions League opening. Over the last two weeks, they have won three straight games in three different tournaments. As a result, they are presently Manchester City's closest Premier League rivals, trailing the champions by just one point in the standings.

Maintaining their penchant for explosive road performances even without Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool comes into Molineux having scored more than one goal in each of their previous five away games across all competitions and conceding only one goal in the 2024–25 Premier League thus far.

Alisson Becker, the top player for Liverpool, missed his team's second straight midweek match due to a muscle issue, but Slot is optimistic that the Brazilian will recover in time for the weekend.

Because of this, Caoimhin Kelleher should give way, even though he earned his stay last weekend with a couple of vital second-half saves. Harvey Elliott, Slot's only other injury sufferer, is still out due to a foot fracture.

The head coach of the visiting team may bench up to ten players from their crushing of West Ham in the EFL Cup; however, Nunez, who played the entire ninety minutes in midweek despite Jota's two goals, may start at the front of the line this week.

The injury to defensive star Yerson Mosquera, who is now proven to have suffered a serious knee problem that may keep him out of action for the remainder of the season, played a major role in Wolves' collapse versus Villa.
