Their current standing, tied with bottom club Vitesse at just 12 points, underscores their difficulties. With only three wins, three draws, and 14 losses so far, FC Volendam's recent loss to Utrecht compounds their challenges.

In response to their poor performance, FC Volendam parted ways with Matthias Kohler in December after just 15 matches in charge. Regillio Simons has taken the helm in an effort to guide the team to safety, yet he faces immediate pressure as he has yet to secure a win, managing only a draw and three losses in his first four matches. This lackluster performance includes conceding seven goals while scoring only two.

Facing overwhelming odds as underdogs, FC Volendam's manager hopes for a positive display from his team in the upcoming match, even if victory seems improbable. The focus shifts to the crucial match against Vitesse next week, where securing points becomes paramount in their battle against relegation.

In the meantime, PSV, having secured second place in the Eredivisie over the past three seasons, are determined to clinch the title this term. They currently lead the league with 56 points, comfortably ahead of Feyenoord.

PSV is the only team in the Dutch top flight that remains undefeated after 20 matches this season, surpassing their own record set in the 1987-88 campaign. Despite being held to only their second draw of the season by Ajax last week, Peter Bosz's side boasts an impressive away record with eight wins in 10 matches this term. Their last league defeat on the road was in January of last year.

In their previous encounter last September, PSV secured a convincing 3-1 victory against their upcoming opponent. They are currently on a three-match winning streak against them, having outscored them 13-4 during this period.

Numerous Volendam players are out with injuries, including Diego Gustavo and Joey, who have been out for a while and are anticipated to be out for some time.

Due to injuries, Deron Payne and Darius Johnson are also ruled out of Sunday's game; Josh Flint is listed as a doubt but is not officially out of the running.
